Something that was popular on the gasroom recently, and I was wondering what my fellow 'not606ers' think is the best Wycombe side in the football league era. Mine is composed only of players that I have seen, and does not include loanees. I suggest that is the criteria for everyone: Taylor Vinnicombe McCarthy Johnson Cousins Carroll Brown Ryan Guppy Rammell Tyson That's my dream team, what's yours?
Hello mate! Yeah, Super Si was just a great striker for us and loved Scotty as well. Will never forget that goal against Slough in our promotion season. Adams Park was truly rocking that night!
miguel desouza came close to getting in my team as did scotty and devine.i found a badger in with the smileys thats the nearest i could get to beever
Taylor (Bull) Cousins (Senda) Williamson (Johnson) McCarthy (Evans) Vinnicombe (Sandell) Carroll (Betsy) Brown (Bloomfield) Ryan (Simpson) Guppy (Tyson) Devine (Beavon) Rammell (McGleish) Some decent options there! Sure there would have been others but only being 18 I have been limited in not seeing some of the legends like Scott, Kerr, etc
I remember when Middlesbrough were top of the Premier (Division 1 I think it was called then) and over two matches they managed to beat us 1-0 (FA Cup replay at Middlesbrough). We had a very good defence in those days. Also remember getting over 100 points and over 100 goals in the league one season. Difficult to say how they would have fared in this league but they were very good. Interesting to compare Len Worley and Steve Guppy for example. Pritchard was a class act. The half back line of Wicks, Darvill and Truett (?Morley - can't remember the name but was a good No 6 = Left half as it was called then). Showing my age and too many to choose from. Martin Taylor was great and it's interesting that our current goaly, who seems all the rage, hasn't been chosen over Martin.
Granville Stapleton Evans McCarthy Abbley Blackler Brownie Carroll Gupps Westy Local Hero John Kerr Supersubs: Paul Hyde/David Gipp/Steve Whitby/Dion Dublin/Scotty/Kevin Durham Manager: God O'Neill Owner: Not ****ing steve hayes
Chairboyjock, I remember Granville. Good stopper but if I remember correctly, was he not a bit small for a goalkeeper. Apologies if I'm wrong. Never rated him against Martin Taylor though.
bull is quality but taylor done it over a few seasons ,bull may yet overtake him if he keeps his form as good as it is now
DJWWFC, you missed out on some truly great players. Scotty was such a fans favorite and he played up to it by often throwing himself into the Valley crowd after scoring and loving the adulation of the fans. Simon Garner was for me the greatest striker I have ever seen in the quarters. He'd lost some of his pace when he came to us, but was always in the right place and a clinical finisher. He would occasionally get subbed before the 90 mins was up as he was knackered and then you would see him light up a *** as he watched the remainder of the match. They were great days to be a Wycombe fan back in the early 90's. You really felt a part of the success and the players were much more accessible to the fans
First time I saw Simon was when he played for West Brom against us in the cup. It was great when he came to us and he soon became a favourite. His tenacity when scoring against PNE was typical. : 4-2 to the Wan der ers, :4-2 to the Wan der ers, :4-2 to the Wan der ers, :4-2 to the Wan der ers,
Ron! No! He was a giant mate! Are you thinking of Chuck Moussadik? Granville was a giant in all senses of the word... he was in the Trinidad and Tobago squad once and had hands the size of my head (which is pretty big). He could chuck the ball over the half way line, often straight to Guppy or Hutchinson or Durham and then there'd be a goal. He was a great goalkeeping coach after. I loved him as a lad behind the goal at Loakes Park. He used to shout 'SIMON SIMON GET IT UP GET IT UP' a lot. I assume he meant for Simon Stapleton to attack but sometimes wondered.
jock i remember chuck playing in goal when we won the 5 a sides at wembley he was a good keeper and i also remember granville he had hands like a bunch of bananas he seemed huge in goal and was also a very good keeper.
Sorry, my mistake. Memory is a strange thing. I can remember some things from the age of 3 as clear as if it were yesterday. Then there are other things more recent that I can't recall at all, like Granville and Wycombes No 6 in the great Isthmian League days. All I can remember is that his name began with M. I was in Wycombe hospital with Freddie Lawson if anyone remembers him (left back?).
