Your all-time favourite drivers

Discussion in 'Formula 1' started by Robin van Bergkamp, Aug 4, 2011.

  1. One of the images in Part 2 of Sporty Dan's F1 Corner Quiz showed a view of my favourite driver and childhood hero. I had a look through the forum and couldn't find a thread asking members to list their favourite drivers so I thought I would start one. As some of us may have memories that go back quite a long way I won't limit your number of choices but say, a maximum of twelve would probably make for a manageable list. If there are enough takers for this very unscientific survey, I'll summarise all our choices at the end of the month and see who our heroes are on this forum.

Assuming that sounds alright with you, I'll kick off with my own choices.

    Mario Andretti
    Alain Prost
    Giles Villeneuve
    Emerson Fittipaldi
    Keke Rosberg
    Jacques Laffite
    Fernando Alonso
    Sebastian Vettel
    Mika Hakkinen
    David Coulthard
    Jenson Button
    Juan Pablo Montoya

My drivers are listed in order of preference. Yours can be a free listing.

    Cheers pals

Senna was my no. 1 but there's been a few drivers I've liked over the years for different reasons, some I couldn't explain myself.

Blundell, Herbert, Berger, Piquet, Capelli, Alesi, Hunt, Montoya, Hill, Button, Hamilton, Kobayashi, Vettel, Alonso. Others I have liked but went off for 1 reason or another Prost (suzuka '89), Scumacher (kept winning dirtily), Webber (constant sly digs at team-mates).

    Senna and Hamilton.

Greatest Ever for me. I couldn't care less who you are if your not Hamilton or Senna. Hamilton goes through a lot of abuse yet hje produces world class drives. I am sure the Hamilton haters here hope he dies because he is challenging their Button Vettel or Alonso.

Why would anyone hope he dies? I wish his mouth would sometimes though.

Because he is the best out there?? Because he crashes into someone apparently" to kill them"?? Because he beat Nando on several occasions in 07?? That pissed you off???

Have you got it now?? Oh no you haven't. You want him crucified.

Is it irony that Alonso beat him more than he lost to him in '07? I was just asking a simple question then it comes to this. :/

Happens to every driver in f1, one day their one of the greatest on track, next day Eddie Jordan makes up a ****ty video saying how flawed they are, and how are they really worthy to lick the spit off the floor of other legends like Clark, Senna...

Knives are everywhere in this sport, some like chucking them around more than others...

I actually find it quite refreshing that the '07 season has been brought up. It's so rarely referenced in the context of the current F1 protagonists.

Alonso and Button never take any bad press. Vettel and Hamilton are the ones that have to go through it. I wanna see Jenson have a very bad race and see what the BBC say(Bias Broadcasting Corporation).

Never did the fans condemn Germany 2010! I find it a joke!

PMC you complain, but nobody said anything derogatory about hamilton at all untill you posted and attempted (succeded) to start an argument. The worst thing was Fred saying that he should shut his mouth sometimes and you respond with this
Total overeaction and misses the fact that wanting him to shut up could in fact be because of the stupid things hamilton often says. (See after monaco for an example)

I laughed so hard that I almost pulled a George Dubya on a pretzel piece. You're right though, his emotion would have come through much clearer with a nice run down of sponsor thanks.

    All time favourite driver.
Alain Prost. Big fan of intelligent driving

Favourite drivers who are currently on the grid.
Kamui Kobayashi (most exciting driver i've seen for ages)
Jenson Button (all around good guy)
Felipe massa (soft spot for him since 08)

Drivers who are not on the grid.
Damon Hill (all around good guy, the original Button)
Gerhard Berger (who else could get away with throwing senna's briefcase out of a chopper)
    Jean Alesi (Always entertaining)
Riccardo Patrese (Played the number two role brilliantly, a true diplomat as well)

Other drivers who I have not really seen live but still resonate with me.

Gilles Villeneuve. (great driver, great entertainer, good person)
Stirling Moss (The man who should have been king)
