From the BBC website: "New Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert, 42, has written to supporters asking for help to turn around the club's poor home form by making more noise."
really? this is a bit pathetic. actually, i think this might rub them up the wrong way. they can be a grumpy bunch at villa park. we might not always be the most vociferous set of fans at carrow road, though we're louder than most, but one thing that always pleases me is that if we go a goal down at home, the majority of our fans are very quick to get behind the team again. its not rare to hear us singing more loudly than the team who have just scored against us. i think thats important and can lift the players. you don't get that at many grounds to be honest, certainly not ones i've been to.
How does he know they aren't noisy? He has been there once. I'm not saying he isn't correct but I would be wary if I were a supporter if the new man in charge is having a bit of a pop before a ball is kicked. I remember Grant alienating the crowd with some of his remarks and of course Roeder lost the terraces completely.
Yes, I saw that and thought it's not really the best of starts for him. Went to the away game last year and their fans were very quiet, apart from when they just scored.
There's a copy of the full letter on one of the villa forums and it's a small part of a general gee up before the friendlies start. http://www.avillafan.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9189 Funny thing is that most of the villa fans think its simply been thrown together by a marketing intern. True to form though he does talk about his new signings being brought in to "give the lads a hand". Maybe he did write it himself.
i find it bizarre that a clubs fans need 'geeing up' before the start of a new season. what is the matter with them?!
It's as a post on the Villa board says, PR s***e, like those company call queueing systems: "Your call is important to us. Our agents know you are waiting (and you can b***** well wait longer, so get stuffed)". Doubt if PL had much input apart from insisting on the wording of the bit about "helping the lads". To mail that letter Second Class to all AV season ticket holders (ca 22,000) would cost £11,000! Hope we would have more sense.
I was born in West Midlands (60+ yrs) ago,my dad was a big Villa fan and I was taken to a few games as a youngster. Even at a young age I never took to them, and formed my own allegiance to the Baggies. Never the most loyal of supporters, especially when things are not going for them. I think McLeish was treated badly by fans. The way he was abused at Carrow rd last season was a disgrace. If things do not go well for PL early on, he will certainly know it. Of the Big4 in West Midlands-certainly the most disloyal fans
mildly interesting, but the less i hear / talk about paul lambert, the better. not that i'm bitter, i've just moved on.
Hi bors, don't recall Lambert ever asking the fans at Carrow Road to be more vociferous ! Perhaps he should ask the players to gve the fans a hand ! LOL.
