Where on earth did this run of form from Sterling come from? He was written of by the majority, while his continuous selections bemoaned by us all, we all knew he was capable of improving. But, has he exceeded all expectations? The boys gone from a talented kid with troubles off the pitch to a solid, hard-working first team player, out performing the likes of Coutinho, Henderson, Sturridge and sometimes even Suarez. It really has come out of the blue, not so much the improvement but very much the extent of it, without going full cliché, he looks very much like a different player. More importantly, a versatile player. He's no longer your standard hug the touchline then dart to the bar-line winger.. Rodgers keen to play him in numerous positions, including an unfamiliar No.10 role and as a support striker, andt he hasn't looked out of place at all, he is now showing why he has been labelled a wonderkid through out his child-hood years. While his pace is still very much an asset, he has a lot more going for him; His deceiving strength on and off the ball, first touch and most importantly for any young attacking teenager, vision. Again, going full cliché, the hard work has just begun. He's developed in to a player who is good enough for the first team, can he kick on and become one of the first names on the team sheet?
He showed great potential from the first moment I laid eyes on him. He's the ace up our sleeve. He's learning, growing, becoming stronger, more skillful, more spatially aware, honing better vision, better passing. His shooting is dire but he may improve on that too. His improvements mean we can even use him in tight spaces now, whereas we had pigeonholed him before as a winger who needed acreage. BR deserves great credit for developing his games in different facets. Even more so than Hendo's, Cout's and Flano's.
His defensive duties and strength impress me a lot. He tracks back and covers for Johnson a lot, who himself likes to get forward.
He can play RB too at at a high level. His versatility since Rodgers has come in has been very impressive. #wonderkid
I was reading an intersting article on rafas website were he was saying how its easier to turn an attacker into a defender rather than def into an attacker That makes sense I suppose but when he starts slowing down maybe he could go to right back Didnt GJ want to be a winger?
Sterling could play as the winger in a 3-5-2 formation. We all used to like that at the start of the season right? ------------------Migs -----Skrtel-----Sakho-----Agger Sterling--Gerrard--Henderson--Flannagan ---------------Coutinho -----------Suarez--Sturridge Of which Flannagan and Sterling can play opposite sides.
No do I **** Hes got potential, nothing more Biased aside I much prefer Sterling in current form, far more direct
Around December I'd written him off as a poor man's SWP/Lennon. Incredibly happy to have been proved wrong. He has been sensational since, he is strong, quick, enthusiastic and he has also developed a footballing brain. Not to mention the fact that he fits seamlessly into any formation we play despite the fact we never play out and out wingers. Wonderful talent who will only get better under Brendan.
Sterlings really developed recently hasnt he? He doesnt look frightened anymore, I used to feel a bit sorry for him the fact he looked **** scared His uncle brought some DVD's up to show Sterliing of when he first burst onto the scene to remind him what he can do, seems to have worked so far! #nojinx
