beat Southend 3-0 1st 30mins (0-0) basically next season's U18 team, controlled 90% of the game made some very good chances but possibly Southend could have gone in 1 up from a break and a very good lob by their left winger. 2nd 30mins (0-0) looked like next season's u16's with a few U18's, had a much harder time of it against the older Southend boys (who retained much of the first 30 mins team) but Charlton got themselves back into it and deservedly kept a blank sheet. 3rd 30mins (3-0) with the Southend lads tiring and having to bring on substitutes Charlton took total control of the game. First a lovely defence splitting ball through the middle and a new lad called Ellis I think (perhaps the Wet Spam lad the U16's picked up last Christmas) finished with some style. Second some one touch passing caused havoc in the Southend defence to allow Fox (left back) to score with style with a shot across the keeper. Third, Pigott finished well from the edge of the box (gave the keeper no chance, just inside the right hand post) after good passing opened Southend up again. All in all a good workout for the lads and nice to see the coach standing there in training top and shorts. AllHell
Feels odd- been reading about the yoof games for years(whether from AHLL, FHB or OS), and none of the usual suspects are there anymore.
New owners, new set-up, new coaches, nu yoof, new team, new attitude... in a few seasons these'll be the old guard!
So is it an end to years of 18 year olds signing pro contacts and never getting near the first team and being released to non league non enterties?
Yes, it's the promised land now, boys... no releasing our promising youngsters, no signing no-hoper loan signings... now if only we can get rid of Addicks FM before the game...
