Almost missed from yesterday was the singing of YNWA during the minutes applause for the 96. Humbling to hear. Humbling to be part of. This sums it up perfectly. http://www.caughtoffside.com/2016/05/01/newcastle-fans-sing-ynwa-rafa-benitez-fights-the-tears/
One of my treasured memories from football go back to 1994 when we played Liverpool away on the 5th anniversary of the Hillsbrough Disaster and the 2 sets of fans joined together before the match during the brief memorial service to sing YNWA. I wasn't the only one who had tears in my eyes when it was being sung. Yesterday reminded me of this again and it was great to see that fans can put aside tribalism and stand together at such times.
99.9% of football fans have put football to one side and shown massive respect to the families for their original loss and their "victory" if that's the right word to use. Everyone realises that it could have happened to any set of fans on any given day. Top marks
Emotional day all round and I did think it was a touch of class from Pardew with his awareness to applaud on the 17th minute. Anyone of an age who stood on terraces will understand how it could get at times. Seeing that happen at Hillsborough was a shocker for all. Taken way too long but at least its finally been moved on.
