Yes, we have no strikers!

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, Aug 12, 2012.

  1. The Sunday Fail is reporting that AVB is going to give Harry Kane his chance in the first team.

And, pray tell us, Mr AVB, what you are going to do if the untried Harry Kane doesn't work for us? What is your plan B? Oh, that's right, you don't have one <doh>

Let's face it, lads, we're screwed if all we are going to rely on are Kane and Defoe.

I really do despair. I cannot blame AVB, because he's only been here for 5 minutes. This is all Levy's own doing.

although it's too late already and we should have got players in to gel sooner, let's at least give it a few days this week for players to come in.

if we go into our first game of the season in this mess, serious questions need to be asked.

Depends, while Levy is the first person I would blame, you also have to consider what AVB has been saying to Levy, so this is both of them that need to be taking the blame if we enter the season with just Kane and Defoe.

When Levy sacked arry, he should have been aware of the fact Adebayor was off and there would be issues signing him long term, and upon signing AVB, the striker situation should have been a priority.

Also AVB, for whatever reason, only believes we need one striker and he is prepared to wait until we sign the right striker, and in the mean time is happy to go with what we have.

If it doesn't work then no one can defend either avb or levy as this is too much of a risk, especially when you consider how important it is for the club to get into the champions league.

Spain can also keep the ball for 5-10 minutes without the opposition getting a touch, if we tried to play like Spain, Lennon and Bale would seize up with the lack of running.

It may well be "fixed" but we have been here before, many a time and the club need to ask themselves, is saving 2-3 million on a transfer deal more important then missing out on the champions league? as there is zero chance of us getting top four with kane and defoe and if we have a slow start to the season then we're relying on other teams to fade.

Well they have just signed Rodwell, for what I expect to be a fee of 15 million so possibly thats taking place because they have done a deal to sell us Adebayor this week, if thats the case we can at least be a bit more positive.

Sorry to bombard but how likely is sigurdsson to start the first few games of the season for you? Would modric start along with Parker and vdv or would siggy replace vdv or would modric not play due to being linked away? Fantasy league see :D Thanks for any help.

Sig will be a starter, our main set piece taker and link between midfield and our attack (if we have one!).

Parker is out injured for the first few games.

  11. I actually believe that we won't miss Modric. I think Sandro is going to step up to the mark this season, plus we have THudd back to fitness; and I like the look of Livermore. Sig and VDV take care of CAM duties, and Ade (if we do sign him) will be our lone striker.

God help us, though, if Ade gets injured!

if you want two of our players in your fantasy team then it has to be bale and sig as they will be involved in all our attacking play and will be expected to be reaching near to double figure (or more) for goals and plenty assists (if we solve this striker problem).

IF Ade signs this week and it's a big if, we should be fine for the start of the season although we'll still need another striker, a winger and the Modric situation sorted before the window shuts.

Hey guys. Been a while since I've been on here and it was deliberate as I felt it best to keep my council on matters Tottenham until everything had unfolded and the season gets underway. So it may still be a full week until we can really start to make any kind of assessment of where we are compared the May but as things stand, I sadly feel that my predictions and scepticism are justified.

Not wanting to start any arguments on here or anything but there was far too much praise and overhyping of AVB joining, how great our chairman is and how the club is definitely moving in the right direction. I wonder of those sentiments still ring true now that we are a week away from the 2012-2013 season kick off and look well short of a squad capable of maintaining last seasons league finish.

Levy and AVB apparently share the same vision for the club. I wonder what that is with a depleted and frankly shambolic looking strike-force? We were supposed to hear some "knock your socks off' news about something or other... ummm.... yet to materialise. The Modric saga drags on and on. So does the Adebayor signing/non-signing which frankly I feel should be left now if this guy isn't happy to take a pay cut over warming a bench in Manchester.

I said right back in May that if we were to make any mark on the upcoming season then we needed to get all transfer related matters done and dusted before EURO 2012. Yet again, our squeaky back-sided Chairman drags the issue out and if it weren't for the insistence on Vertonghen wanting to play for his boyhood English club, our defence would look pretty bleak with Ledders now retired, Gallas crap and past it, Dawson very injury prone and Kaboul the only player I would put my present faith in.

As I iterated then.... "Get ready for the bumpy ride" as I feel this season could be a real kick in the nuts. Loads of us wanted to see the back of Harry including myself. I wonder if in months to come we will regret that sentiment. To dare is to do but to do nothing is unforgivable. Frankly we've done nothing.

    Flagspur,
I share your concern. With Oddball and Oddball Junior (Lewis,Levy) in charge this is our wilderness years.

So long as nobody blames AVB for this.

he does not do the spending ..he can ask for someone everyday but it is Levy's shout...however im happy to see us not getting fingered by other clubs..we will leave that to chelsea...i just want to see solid foundations and intentions this season....this is just the begining of AVb's reign....cant expect everything to go swimmingly from the off.

If we start with JD as the only striker I will be fuming, and blame ENIC 100%. I cannot believe for one minute that AVB would be such a poor manager as to think JD can be a sole striker in the Prem.

And if he is that dim (which he surely isn't) then I blame ENIC for hiring him
