I can only assume this is to free his loan space up to get somebody else in if true.... Sunderland could terminate their loan agreement with Tottenham for DeAndre Yedlin, report theShields Gazette. The Black Cats are planning a clear out amid their own frenetic attempts to add players to their squad, and ending Yedlin's loan and sending him back to Spurs is one of the options the club is considering. Ola Toivonen's loan from Rennes is also at risk of being ended early. Yedlin, 22, is on a season long loan from Spurs, having joined from Seattle Sounders a year ago. He signed in the summer of 2014 but was loaned back to the MLS side, before making the switch in January, but only played one game for the club as a substitute. The right-back was sent out on loan to gain experience, and that he certainly has done at Sunderland, but it has not all been positive with the club sitting in 19th place in the Premier League. It is their lowly league position which is prompting boss Sam Allardyce to consider all options. Yedlin was part of his side when he took over, but has been on the bench in recent weeks. The American has not started a Premier League game since the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal on December 5. At Tottenham his future is unclear. Kyle Walker has returned to form, while Spurs signed right-back Kieran Trippier in the summer, who already looks like a superior back-up to Yedlin.
Wouldn't be too bothered about both of them going back, providing we get the replacements in. Yedlin is poor, and Toivonen isn't the player we thought we were getting. Although on Toivonen I don't think he's been utilised to the best of his abilities.
If we send Yedlin back, we must have somebody lined up to come in straight away. That will leave us with just Jones and PVA as full backs, with no cover.
Spot on! Although I watched Yedlin put over some fantastic crosses against Arsenal! Not a very good defender though!
We need a defender, many more goals shipped from those positions could well cost us our league status very quickly.
Agree. One thought though - if Sam prefers Johnson in the middle, and Watmore's looking increasingly jaded lately, would a lightning fast good crosser not have his uses other than in defence? Why not try him on the wing and play to the lad's strengths?
He plays Right wing for the USA. He'd definatley be better playing there. You can see why we have so many problems in defence now. PVA is arguably a natural Left winger aswell, leaving us with Jones as our only proper Fullback, and he's defensively suspect aswell.
Exactly why 3 at the back is the only option at the moment as we do not have any natural defenders in the full back positions since Rev was jettisoned, BJ looks better at LB imo, trouble is we are srtuggling to turn out 3 CB's, and we really need a whole new defence if we are to play 4 at the back, what a mess we are in, and it looks like the purse is empty, wtf.
