I posted somewhere else that it seems he has been offered another contract, I saw him come through the U18's and always thought he could make it given the chance. Some people say that they are not that bothered about Yards but consider this....... if Chris Solly had been released last summer who would have raised a stink? Well FHB and myself but how many others? Mambo 'No 5' is a good player, he's been doing well in the Blue Square Prem (which is not far off League 2) and he's young and ALREADY OURS! let's give him a chance and think of him as the new Chris Solly, polish him (no giggling at the back) encourage him, tell him he's the best thing since Carl Jenkinson (a player who won us League 1 with his £1m contribution to club coffers) rather than write him off now. AllHell
I remember watching him come on as a sub in a pre season match at kettering and watching the opposition wilt in front of him. He has the stature to make a good defender and needed the experience at Ebbsfleet to know how to read the game. If in this pre season he shows he can cut it he will be another success for our academy. Whether CP thinks he can do a job in the championship or not, is another matter and is a decision for those who know better than I.
Against Reading him and Cort were great together (that's the same Reading who are now promoted to the Premier League). I've never been 'unimpressed' by him. Sometimes he seems quite anonymous on the field (I guess similarly to Taylor and Dailly), but he seems to offer a big threat from corners. I posted a link on another thread (Alonso?) which was from a Tranmere fan, living near Ebbsfleet, who has seen Mambo play on quite a number of occassions. Seems to have plenty of great things to say about him.
I've said before that I think Mambo has the makings of a good defender, but the question is, if we bring him back how does he get a game? With this medical team we have our players(apart from JJ) just don't seem to get injured. None of our central defenders got injured all season.
That's a good point, considering bwp's was "injury prone" and had dodgy knees when he signed his only missed a hand full of games in a year and a half! Jacksons the only long term injury we've really had
RE BWP - Peter Reid said on soccer Saturday that they let him decide when he trained and if he was fit etc as his knees were so dodgy. CP then pointed out that he hasn't missed a training session since joining and doesn't see a problem.
All of which goes to show that we have an excellent back up team with first rate physios etc. All part of the successful rebuilding.
I am sorry but IMHO Yado Mambo is not good enough.I can understand that Powell wants to give him more time.I have been a regular viewer of the U18s and Yado has got all the physical attributes but i feel he is more suited to non league football. There are three centre halfs who i think will make it and they are Harry Osbourne,Harry Lennon and Semi Ajayi.I hope i am wrong about Mambo,as Powell obviously sees something.
And I see it as well. I always said the 3 outstanding members of that fine under-18 side were Jonjo, Solly and Mambo.
We always disagreed about Jenkinson didn't we Billy I guess we should call that a draw in that no he hasn't become a first team regular for us BUT he did help rebuild the club last summer
Ah but Jenkinson wasn't in that particular team, the one which was knocked out of the youth cup by Sunderland, and a Jordan Henderson goal! The other player I thought would make it was the little Nigerian striker wotsisname who had paperwork problems.
Yep Danny Uchechi, that's the chap. Jordan Henderson was the star turn, scored a great winner, lobbing the keeper from the edge of the box.
