Is this the experienced forward we were all saying we needed? I don't think so!

    Sunderland set sights on Yakubu

    01:00 PM 02 July, 2011

Sunderland Football Club are lining up an offer for Yakubu.

The Nigerian international is out of favour at Everton, and he spent the second half of last season on loan in the Championship where he impressed for Leicester City.

Yakubu scored eleven goals in just twenty matches for the Foxes, and this has reportedly made him a target for Steve Bruce at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats boss has already bolstered his strike force with Connor Wickham and Ji Dong-won, and he would hope to land the 28-year-old Toffees ace for £6million.

Would be a disappoint me to me if we signed him.

I expect better than that. Big physical lad but not the answer imo

Please god no he was loaned out for a reason he is crap. That was from an Everton team who struggled for goals last season, they thought they'd be better off without him so I'm sure we can manage not even as a squad player for me.

To be fair he always seemed a threat when he played, but to be honest it was always a threat to those sat in row Z or anywhere near the corner flag. On reflection he's got experience and always seemed to chip in with goals (not prolific though). To have two big lads up front in Gyan and the Yak would cause lots of problems, we certainly shouldn't get muscled off the ball much. To be honest undecided on him.

What he said, forgot to mention the price is a bit steep.

Strange one for me, on form of old, Boror days, he was not bad and would not cry if he came to be a squad player and we still bought a big name. If he came for 6 mil and was our main striker with Gyan then it would undo a lot of the good work done, unles he was a Bramble 2.

I have to disagree with the general consensus mind.

Yakubu is a goalscorer, and always has been, he really struggled to get fit after his injury, and that is why he was eventually loaned out.

11 in 20 suggests he's still got the knack, but £6mllion? They can get ****ed.

Half it, and he's MAYBE worth the punt.

He did score a hattrick in the 7-1. Apologies for your nightmares of McShane tonight.

I think for 1 or 2 mill this could certainly turn out to be the type of deal we got with Titan Bramble last year as he will definatly give us a physical presence to allow gyan to score more but at 6 mil........... not a chance.

lol i read this when it was first put on, 1st thought was OH NO but didnt post it as i thought i would look him up first, for the price its still a OH NO, just remember his open goal miss in the world cup from about 5 yards out.

Why are most big brute players wimps/cant shoot for **** or can only have 1 good game in 6, KJ, Heskey, Jo, Adebayor, to name but 4.

he is in no way prolific 322 games 122 goals, not sure about assists but from watching him in the past i cant say his assists have ever popped up (as in he doesnt do many lol).

But like someone else said a bit earlier, if Everton sent him on Loan when they had 0 strikers and were hovering 4th from bottom at the start of last season, then how on earth can they value him at 6 million.

if you look at it season by season its not that good, especially for Everton.

    07-08 39 games 21 goals
    08-09 17 games 5 goals
    09-10 36 games 6 goals
10-11 15 games 1 goal (then loaned, where he scored a hat trick against boro and 2 against watford)
