I can't help thinking Yakubu, if he joins us again is a desparation signing. If Sven really wanted him after the end of last season then he would have stalked him like he has done with Maynard. If it was Yakubu that didn't want to come then that should be it - just because he hasn't had a better offer doesn't mean we should now go after him again and pay him a vastly high wage.

Remember Svens words, 'we only want players that want to play for LCFC' - if the Yak did then he would be here now. Don't want to sound bitter but I want someone who wants to be here. As I write you also wonder if Maynard does too...?!

The Yak will no doubt get us some goals but he will infuriate in many games when he is not up for it. Last seasons performance against Forest where he just did not give a sh*t summed it up for me.

If he signs then I just can't help but think this is desparation street...and yes he might fire us to promotion and great if he does but he didn't do it often enough for me last season.

I'm sorry but in case anyone hadn't noticed we haven't exactly fended potential strikers off with a stick - Sven has for some reason struggled to persuade any of our targets to join us - Maybe its because he set his sights too high, maybe he isn't the draw he thought he was and maybe he should have put some more energy into achieving his goal.

we are where we are and I for one don't have a fairy tale dream of players having a burning ambition and desire to play for Leicester - its a business deal for player and club - So you romantics get over it - We need a player/s who will score goals and Yakubu will do that (as well as drive you crackers with low key effort in too many performances) But he will score goals

Depends which way you look at it.

With the fact that we only get Yakubu if we don't get Maynard, I really hope we don't get Yakubu.

Then again if we don't get Maynard, who else is there? I'm struggling to think of anyone else worth getting. And it would have to be a loan by now remember.

Some people think that fans are just being pathetic and picky when they complain about Yakubu's laziness. Of course this is bollocks, his laziness and refusal to move into space or get to the ball first in a 50/50 makes it so much more diffficult for his teammates to create chances for him and others. We will not give him the supply that he had last season so he's going to need to contribute more.

Also whilst Yakubu is quick over 20 yards, it takes him about 15 to get going. Maynard has pace over 5 yards and this is why he can make something out of nothing. He can score all types of goals whereas Yakubu can't, he is mainly a box player who needs it on a plate, now and again he does something magic but not ofte enough to excuse his inconsistency.

Anyway, for a number of reasons I feel Maynard is a much better option than Yakubu, so I really hope we get him instead. But if it does fall through I think sadly, Yakubu is the only real option.

If we get Yak and Maynard, that would be awesome, and would cover the (let's face it) injury-prone Nugent. If we don't get Maynard and get the Yak instead, then I will inevitably be disappointed. But I wouldn't say it would be a disaster.

    why is nugent injury prone?

yakubu would be a top signing, better than anyone else in the league can get.

This is my point, every seems disappointed if we get Yakubu, not exactly good eh. Emilio, you are right that he won't get as many chances this season, we have changed the way we play and he will need to get into more areas of the pitch than he did last year, but will he? I don't think he will.

Proud - it's not about being romantic with the club etc al just can't be doing with one of those mid Jan games when it is cold and grim and we need everyone giving 100% and he is just having one of his too many off days. Everyone has them but it is his lack of effort that we cannot afford to carry. One thing in his favour is he does hold the ball up well.

Everton are not blessed with forwards and he cannot even get on their bench, what does that say...just thing we are going round circle and Sven has failed to look around our current league/league below for options as there are plenty of other good strikers around..WH with Baldock was a good shout.

Because he's had a fair few injuries in his career. Hopefully he's passed all that, but it's not a great start is it?

id say he has had no more than any other footballer, but then maybe i just havent heard of them.

yak will bang them in and his big reputation will mean a lot of man marking on him, freeing up the likes of king to score more.

Calm down. We have danns and fernandes to feed the yak or make up for his lazy attitude.
Its normal to assume he will be an ass on the basis of last season but with nugent in our squad its all going to balance out at the end of the season

Anyway heres hoping sven signs maynard

Good assessment of the situation I think.

Maynard would probably be more suited to our style of our play in that he likes to run in behind defences and is more mobile and for that reason I would prefer Nicky.

The only thing with the Yak would be that last season he was playing on his own through the middle which meant we were looking for him to be trying to run beyond defences which he didn't do too much of but this season he would (hopefully) be playing in a two up top so there would be someone else to do the running and it might allow the Yak to play his normal game without harming us defensively as much. I just hope we haven't bowed down to his wage demands and that if he does sign, it's on our terms.

As for other options, why don't we go back in for Beckford? Everton's financial situation must mean that any player is for sale at the right price so we could just bid £4 million for him and I doubt Everton would turn it down. I think he's got similar ability to Maynard but we could get him £2 mil cheaper.

def think it would be a desperation signing. and i for 1 certainly dont want him back here, all he is interested in is money, a complete bone idle waste of space, rather do without him and take our chances, useless bloody lump.................................
