Rob Tanner just said on twitter that if we dont get Yakubu we will probaly go in for Nicky Maynard from Bristol City. He has 1 year left on his contract and with a dodgy injury past 2M should get Maynard. Thinking now i would rather we signed Maynard, Heskey and Nugent instead of Yak. At least we know Heskey will give 100% for us.

He also said that City wont say anything about the David Nugent rumours

Well 2 or 3 people that work at the Club (including the ever reliable Bert) have confirmed that Nugent was having his medical today. Then he said he was told nothing was wrong.

I think Tanner's just a bullshitter myself. I expect Nugent to be unveiled tomorrow.

Personally I would take Maynard. If he can stay fit he's a better signing than Yakubu. He's younger, hungrier, and was the top scorer of this league the season before last. I would have put it the other way round - I would have gone for Maynard and then if that failed gone for the Yak.

    OK. Sorry Rob :)

TBF though he did write as if he knew something. 'The people I speak to at the Club know nothing of a medical or a press conference'.

This is the same as Stringer saying there's 'big news' in the morning. It would be better if they just said nothing. Saying something is like they're trying to sound clever or dramatic. Saying something when you know nothing often leads to confusion.

Maynard for around £2M is a bargain.

Maynard, Nugent and Kamara would be ACE!!

What I liked about Kamara was his movement. This is why I've said I would prefer him to the Yak, he makes himself available and gives defenders something to think about. Plus he's quick and history tells us scores goals in this league.

As I've said before though, I wouldn't use any of these strikers out wide if a 4-3-3 is what we're sticking with. We need at least one winger.

I think Sven will change to 4-4-2 though.

Rumours here are Maynard wants to play in the Prem. He was out for a year with ligament damage but the op went well and he came back like he'd never been away. He can score goals from nothing and believe me he's the real deal. 2m won't buy him though, we paid 3.2m for him (over the odds I know), his value is a source of some debate as he's worth as much as someone is willing to pay, but we don't need the money as our chairman is obscenely rich. We're all praying he stays but his days here seem to be numbered...

    Cheers <ok>

Have any Premiership Clubs shown an interest?

We still haven't really spent any money yet, despite hearing that we've got a lot. I was hoping we'd test Spurs' reserve for Kyle Naughton, but that's not going to happen. We were looking to have signed Yakubu but that one may have fallen through partly because we don't want to pay all the wages he wants.

So I'm hoping at some point we'll actually throw some money at someone. We might be a bit desperate if Yakubu doesn't happen and make a high bid for Maynard. I should think we'd be prepared to pay over £3 million (I hope).

    No worries <ok>

Millen our manager has stated in the local press that no-one has been in for him but that was about a month ago, we've seen the usual spiel from the red tops but nothing worth commenting on really. 3m could buy him as we're blessed with striking talent and we do need to strengthen elsewhere (we're all painfully aware of that!) In saying that, we keep getting linked with other strikers so it all adds fuel to the fire really. I think the balls in Nickys court on this but we may hold on to him until January if he doesn't sign, but who knows...

    Who's Rob Tanner btw?

Rob Tanner writes for our local paper, The Mercury, and has been tweeting recently about transfer gossip and such. He keeps saying things which could be interpreted as he knows something, however the limit of his knowledge is under debate. Sadly rumours from people such us him are the only thing that keeps football fans entertained in the summer!

Again cheers for the info, I'm quite encouraged by that myself, you'll be hoping Yakubu deal goes through for us instead I'm sure.

Good luck for next season with or without Maynard <ok>

I would have hoped to have at least 1 new signing to talk about by now, but no such luck.

Maynard, Nugent, Yak/Heskey, Waghorn, Vassell i guess would be the dream, but i can't see it happening exactly like that.

Maynard has had a 5m price tag slapped on him. Now that is just to keep clubs away and/or to maximise profit but we will not get him for 2m; think it would be closer to 3 plus appearances/add ons. Heskey is not coming. I think we will tell Yak make your mind up and if he stalls then we'll go for Maynard. Nugent I think will happen anyway before c.o.b. Friday.

We need a big man striker now.

Nugent and Maynard are both goalscorers who are quick and pacey but we need someone who can ruffle up defenders if things aren't going our way.

Call me crazy, but with the passing play that we do, do we really need a big target centre forward?

Whilst not comparing us to Barcelona and its a different league but they dont have a huge target man. I mean look at Howard, sure he's scored the odd goal but lets be honest do we want another playing of his calibre?

I’m just wondering if there is an opportunity to be a bit clever with the negotiations here. If we’re serious about Maynard we could perhaps offer money and Waghorn as a makeweight in the deal.

I know Waghorn divides opinion amongst fans, but there is no point in keeping him to get a sore backside sitting on the bench as I’m not sure that he’s in Sven’s plans.
