Why make such a rushed decision? We beat an extremely poor Derby team. We've got all the time in the world, I don't want to take any credit away from Nick or the team today but let's not lose our heads.
I've got a bone to pick with you HT. Just been reading the Ipswich board and came across this little gem of yours: "My worry for you is that have lots of big names but a lot of them are on the decline. The future for clubs of our size (and larger clubs like yours) is to get a decent amount of youth with some wise old heads."
Bigger isn't always better! I've always thought of Ipswich as an old 1st or 2nd division team, and also a team with European history and with more money to spend, a larger stadium, a league championship, an FA cup and a UEFA cup win. They also seem to be able to afford paying money to old has beens like Bullard! Have you seen their list of ex-managers ? It includes: Sir Alf Ramsey, Sir Bobby Robson amongst other quite high profile names. I think of us as an old 2nd Division team, but we are moving towards being a top Div 2/bottom Div 1 side. We have great potential and IMO are one of the best teams in this division. I'll stand by my opinion that Ipswich are a larger club (maybe only slightly these days), it's probably partly due to my age that I've always seen them as a larger club (it feels weird that Wednesday and the Blades are in League One!).
I hate talk of 'big clubs'. It basically means used to be good but are now **** by comparison. It means nothing now and is completely irrelevant. I'd be willing to entertain it if people used factors that acrtually influence what happens here and now such as if you said "Leicester and West Ham are the biggest clubs in this division, due to their finances and squads." But if it's things like "Forest, Leeds and Ipswich are big clubs because they used to be very good in the 70s." Then it just means nothing and is frankly nonsense. It's the same school of thought as stopping promotion and relegation so we can preserve the 'big' clubs' status in the PL.
I don't necessarily agree with the 'history dictates the size of the club' arguement but you're entitled to your opinion. The important facts are that we both have wealthy owners, we have more recently been in the Prem and at the moment we are 7 points above them in the play-off places. On a lighter note I loved this comment by one of their fans on the same thread: no real excuse I know, but with Sonks back soon ( absolute key plank in our defence, missed him like hell)
