Not sure if anyone around the forums knows anything about Xbox, but here's the situation - I've got an Xbox One already, pay for Ultimate Access (which is the new, more expensive version of Game Pass). My son's been talking about getting a Nintendo Switch but as he's always been on Microsoft, adding another set of subscriptions sounds like a **** idea. So would it make more sense to upgrade or just add another console to the household, and if so should I be going for the cheaper Series S to put in his bedroom, or the higher powered Series X so the old console then goes to his room? Or is the Switch worth getting? Modern life's middle class problems are entirely embarrassing.
I've got a Switch connected to an oled TV - I like it - but I've only used it to play the excellent Zelda Breath of the Wild. Resolution on its screen is 720p but full HD when docked to a TV. Been trying to get an Xbox series X all year (at the retail price) without success. That's the only version I'd opt to buy now, but my old Xbox One X was excellent (before I donated it to my uni bound son). You might find a used one of those.
Just bought my lad a Xbox series S. Pretty good but hard drive is only 500gb. Game pass is good though. Better than paying £70 a game.
If he has a load of games for the X Box One on disc and wants to continue playing those games then he will need the x series. The S series has no disc drive.
Switch is more family friendly, the games are based more around younger kids, plus there's backwards compatibility to play older SNES games. Xbox would be ideal if he's more of a hardcore gamer.
Not sure about other consoles but the xbox gets used for everything here. Kodi, amazon, netflix, Disney tv. I know getting kodi on a PlayStation4 is a massive ball ache. I watch my football free on kodi so need that ****.
My old Xbox packed in and I didn't fancy forking out for the X and bought the S. I'm more than happy with it. Of you've got ultimate pass anyway it will work a treat. Most importantly it's got the best feature of a solid state drive same.as the X so you can just flick between games quickly. It's dead silent and very neat. The X is a beast of space is a consideration.
Thanks all - the plan is now stick with Xbox we have, then just upgrade to an X as/when the games catalogue justifies it. At the moment, there's basically nothing worth the extra money! Santa's going to argue that a gaming chair and some plastic crap is a much better idea.
