If that happens then the WYP will have incentive to put more restrictions on football matches as a way to pay for their budgets.

"I think there’s a case to say an element of that funding could be paid to police, given the pressures of reducing budgets we’re facing. The police are expected to provide significant resources when risk assessments are done that say there could be significant problems at particular games."

It clearly has nothing to do with policing and everything to do with a perceived budget shortfall and an attempt to extort money from the clubs. Perhaps the police are watching to many Sopranos episodes and have decided that extortion really does pay the bills.

This is further evidence of the success of the campaign. When supporters of special funding want more money, opponents can point to the march and how the risk was assessed incorrectly.

There is a problem. Not the football club, but Leeds. The violence in the surrounding areas in recent years that has been associated with football, but is linked to it in name only, has increased the cost of policing the Leeds area. Everyday policing throughout the West Yorkshire region suffered as a result. I agree that extra funding should be made available to cover the costs incurred when there is credible evidence that there is a string likelihood of violence. I want to be able to travel to and from a match without fear of violence. At the same time I would want the risk to be independently assessed.
I will be writing a risk assessment this week, for a job I plan to do in the South West. There is a very high level of threat of violence, including the threatened use of dogs and setting fires. The risk assessment will include the threats and what actions I intend to use to counter them. I will have to submit copies of the risk assessment, a full schedule of events. I will need at least 6 Police Officers for around 6 hours. I will also require monitoring for several days after. The cost of policing will be around £1800.00. I will not be expected to pay for this, but I will have to work to the daily operational staffing levels. In other words I will have to let the police decide when they can supply officers without increasing the cost. So the week of school holidays is out for a start. So are weekends and Fridays.
I will aim for a Tuesday morning.
I understand that I have to work with the police on this, the police understand that they have to work with me and my clients understand that without either of us agreeing, nothing will go ahead.
In the WYP situation there was a failing right at the start of the season. They saw the fixtures and it was at that point that they should have looked at the contract with SKY. They should plan for at least one home match at Huddersfield to be televised and used the logic that it was always going to be played on a Saturday night.

Let's support his campaign for a review of the laws governing football games though. That way we can ask for them to be written to include equality with the rest of the population. I wonder if he realises he's not the only one to have brought things to the Home Office's attention, they also received complaints about his force abusing their position.

So, theft/ restriction of trade from legitimate enterprise is ok as long as it benefits the police, who are taxpayer funded and who's taxpayers include football fans who already pay through the nose....

    What a pillock!

That explains the political point they were making with the travel restrictions then.

    ****ers!

That will be interesting. When do our stewards remove any away fans kicking off? They just stand and glare at City fans and pick on a few meek and mild ones.
