In the Capital One cup we have been drawn away against Wycombe Wanderers Bad memories against them after that FA Cup game at Filbert Street The fixtures for the League come out on Wednesday
Last time we played Wycombe the Premiership looked like this http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/premier-league/2000-2001/table/2001-03-03
Those were indeed the days (for us anyway) What I'd give to be back to anywhere near as good a side as we had back then, we finished 5th that season and only narrowly missed out on finishing 4th
We was doing really well, until that Wycombe game. We lost 12 out of the last 13 games. I remember when we went top of the league. Arsenal had just beaten Man U 1-0 where Theirry Henry flicked it up and turned and smashed a volley over Fabien Barthez. We got a 0-0 draw at Sunderland The following week Man U turned up to Filbert Street with a reserve team, we thought we might do them but they smashed us 3-0. A very up and down season that one

We had Super George Burley in charge back then. He is and always will be a club legend. Great player and Manager for us. As for players, we had some pretty decent ones. Richard Wright, Titus Bramble, (Mowbray had just retired) Fabian Wilnis, Jamie Clapham, Matt Holland, Jim Magilton, Hermann Hreidarsson, Marcus Stewart, Darren Bent, Martijn Reuser et al. I think we took everyone by surprise that year and we were incredible away from home (for a newly promoted side) and beat some big names away, but I imagine you guys have some big names of your own from that era... The next year we signed Finidi Georges and got promptly relegated... but we did beat Inter Milan 1-0 on our patch with an Alun Armstrong Header
Also the season we got promoted we finished with a record points haul for a 3rd place finish 1. Charlton Athletic 46 27 10 9 79 45 91 2. Manchester City 46 26 11 9 78 40 89 3. Ipswich Town 46 25 12 9 71 42 87 The amount of points we got that season would have been enough to see us as champions this time round (although on goal difference) and would probably back up the claims that the 'quality isn't as high as it used to be' although the fact the league is more competitive does make it a lot more interesting/nail biting
Peter Taylor had took over here and ****ed us over. We started well as the table suggest but the wheels fell off in the last 10-15 games We had some legends here then in Matt Elliott, Muzzy Izzet, Gerry Taggart, Robbie Savage, Steve Guppy. Along with our new deadly 5M striker Ade Akinbiyi We beat Liverpool, Tottenham, Leeds and Ipswich at home and we did the double over Chelsea
Leicester top and Derby bottom! How sweet if it had finished like that! And we only had another 30 games to go...
The top seven looks more like the Championship than the fourth tier. That was from the brief period when four went up but only one went down.
