    Wycombe Wanderers vs Chelsea

Wednesday 16th July 2014 – Adams Park, Wycombe

So another season is almost upon us. The usual post-season blues has been severely dampened as a result of one of the most exciting World Cups in recent times. One of our boys is a world champion – congratulations to Andre Schürrle and the rest of the German team.

This season promises once again to be an incredibly open affair and many of us will feel Chelsea should be ending the season as premier league champions once again. After four seasons of missing out on the title to the two Manchester clubs, the return of the ‘Special One’ and the addition of a number of new faces mean the team’s top priority should be to re-attain the league title.
Last season Chelsea came very close to domestic success and went further than any other Premier League team in Europe. The time for the ‘transitional season’ is over. No longer can Mourinho call us the ‘Little Horse’.

The new additions to the team so far in the window show the team’s statement of intent. Cesc Fabregas, a player many of us would never have thought would one day play in blue, is a marque signing and should add plenty of creativity to the squad. Diego Costa brings some much needed firepower up top after scoring 36 goals for Athletico last season, more than Eto’o, Torres & Ba combined. Let’s hope he adjusts to the Premier League as quickly as possible and proves any doubters wrong. Finally Mario Pašalić has officially signed from Hajduk Split after scoring 11 goals in 32 apps at the young age of 19. One for the future we hope.

Thibaut Courtois undoubtedly will be the new face in goal after seriously impressing on loan at Athletico Madrid over the past three years. It is finally time for Cech, a club legend and one of if not the best keepers in the Premier League era, to step aside.

With over a month of the transfer window remaining the club should address the pressing need for a new LB to replace Cole as well as possibly another striker depending on the Lukaku situation. As we all know the next month of friendly matches are meaningless in the grand scheme of things, but they do allow the squad to gel and ready themselves for the long season ahead.

Mourinho now has time to experiment with our players, both deciding who will go on loan and who will fill the 25 man squad. Round one sees another friendly against Wycombe Wanderers who the Blues last played in the 2011-12 season winning 3-0 at Cobham. We all know what Chelsea achieved that season.

Regarding LB, Phillipe Luis is having a medical this week. He's 28. I think Bertrand is plenty good enough and will improve with a decent run of games. More concerned about the CD position. JT and Cahill are fine, though slow, and Cahill is too inconsistent for me. Would like to see someone young and quick in the squad as a rotational player. Lukaku needs sorting as well, if he's off, we need another good'un, Torres is rat ****.

Is there any way of catching this? Or will i just be able to see the highlights?

Agree with the above too, don't think we need Filipe and would like a new CB!
