So it wasn't Ugwu who scored......but Banton.....yes the same one who couldn't score to save his life at Plymouth. But this isn't John Sheridans Argyle but Derek Adams team......no better way to solve a slow start problem than scoring in the first 5mins.....the returning Reuben Reid poking it in from close quarters.....then Banton did what he couldn't do for PAFC....scored. The difference is Argyle scored again.....Jervis getting a ricochet off his body to bundle the ball in from close in. Reuben Reid got good comments that he was the difference up front giving Wycombe's defence a hard time....answering some of the talk lately that he wasn't necessary up front. The usual change lately has been Gregg Wylde coming off at half-time and Tanner coming on......Wylde at present is not producing the goods....but I'm sure that in time he will do better......aspecially if he toughens up his defending and starts tackling effectively. A late start to this game before the Referee was satisfied with Wycombe players wearing navigation equipment......(what in case they get lost) ....plus 7mins of injury time made this came finish very late.....but Plymouth held on with confidence for a well deserved win.....roll on next week when I'll be down HP to see for myself how good they can play at home.
Was a bit puzzled about the late start and even more puzzled with the reason when it was given out. What the f*** will they think of doing next. I listened to most of this game thanks to her indoors ignoring my superstition and putting the radio on. It seemed to go on and on forever. Anyway, this was a fantastic result for Argyle given the opposition and what happened at the end of last season. Mind you it was pretty much a new team for us so perhaps no hangover. All those people who go on and on about Reid being lazy and not bothered if he stayed or went are nuts. I don't think we would miss him as much as we might have previously but I'd rather him be here than not.
It was a tense listen for sure. Sounds like Reuben was very much up for it, and although I was one of those who were ambivalent about whether he stayed or went it seems like we are a much better team with him in it. Long may it continue! Regarding the late start... I read something a while ago about players wearing GPS to monitor their effort during the match (and their training the next week takes account of this)-I suspect it is commonplace in the prem/championship but probably not widespread in the lower leagues. If I know about it, how come a 'professional' ref doesn't. Cant see any reason to object to its use and surely the match officials should be briefed about these sorts of things?
Think the officials need to wear it and then get some extra training the week after.. They don't know much..
Just a remark about Banton. First time around his goals kept us afloat so it wasn't as if we knew he couldn't score because he did here. It was second time around that he was a waste of a shirt and did nothing. This has to be his last chance of making a career in football. He has been left out by so many different managers that you have to believe it isn't them it's him. You just knew it was going to be him today and I'd already told the Wycombe board that much. How often is it that our Ex players come back and bite our arse. I also told them that Ugwu wasn't pants but that he wasn't great either. Just a run of the mill player for me who will occasionally do a job. Fortunately he was the one who missed the sitter from a couple of yards so he did do something for us this once anyway. It's all far too high tech for me when they start monitoring players like that. Surely the Managers and his cohorts must be able to see who is or isn't doing the business and what effort they are putting in. If they can't do that without the aid of gadgets then they don't deserve to be a manager in my book. The premiership can do what it likes as I have little interest in them but down with the blood and snotters it just seems out of place somehow.
"In 25 yards, take the 3rd exit from the tackle" "Take the 3rd exit and then turn left at the next challenge" "No, take the THIRD exit" "Make a U-Turn where possible" "Take the 4th exit at the next defender" "Make a U-Turn where possible" "Oh alright then, hoof it at Brunty"
Very good notDistant..........brought a smile to my face at ten to seven in the morning.....thank you.
Maybe Wycombe is the Colditz of Div 2.......and the club can tune into the players GPS......in case any of them try to make a break for freedom.....meaning that they don't need to surround the ground with barb wire or machine gun turrets......just a thought.
Seriously, an excellent if hard-won result. I was worried we wouldn't have the strength to take on a physical side on a doctored pitch so I'm happier with a battling result like that than an easy 3-0 victory. Onwards and upwards.
