http://edition.cnn.com/2013/08/19/world/asia/india-train-deaths/index.html So a fast moving train has killed a bunch of people in India. The people were on the tracks. People then beat the driver and set the train on fire. Crazy world.
So 15.000 people die in India each year in train related incidents. I'm sorry but I don't get it? How about we look out for those trains people? Might be a good idea.
India has an atrocious record for train accidents. It's a rail network that has had little improvements made to it since it was built. So a crumbling infrastructure and dilapidated rolling stock, combined with terrible health and safety all combines to create a death trap.
Its sad that so many died but I hope they prosecute the people who beat the driver, seen some reports saying he's dead. Not his fault that people think it's ok to stroll about on a train line.
I'd really like to go to India one day, but people I know who have been say that you see complete beauty and absolute horror side by side on a daily basis.
Mrs J went there years ago . Loved it , but said such contrasts , be prepared for some nasty shocks .
It's on my list. I'll probably head somewhere north though, maybe even Nepal as I've got some friends who work out there.
Went to Bengaluru in 2015 for work ... crazy place ... 5 star luxury for the westerners visiting ... then you drive into the business parks passing people who aren't just on the bread line, but on the life line ... some things I saw were heart wrenching ... and you can't help everyone ... weighs you down with guilt and shames you for complaining about trivial things in your own life ... I stopped to give an old lady some change I had and she wept ... the Indian guy I was with told me she blessed me because she said she hadn't eaten in over a week ... now you could say it was an act ... but she was so emaciated that I don't think it was ... tragic ... in this day and age nobody should die of starvation.
Oh the rich are very rich , they are a powerfully nation and a growing economy . it's just the poor are so poor .......and some are treated worse than animals .
