    Is £6M apparently.

Irregardless we bought Ulloa for £10M - no offence to the lad but Falcao is light years ahead of him.

They will probably make it all back in sales and sponsorship in South America - he seriously is one of the best players in the world.

We paid £8m for Ulloa (or £7m according to Sky Sports) for four years. They've paid £6m for a loan player, who will go back to his parent club in nine months. Remember, transfer fees are really a sort of compensation - Brighton estimate they'll need £8m to replace Ulloa. Monaco don't need compensating for the nine months that they've allowed their player to leave for (presumably they believe he wouldn't have got in the team, otherwise it's a strange move) and will get him back anyway, so £6m on top is a bonus. The real difference between Ulloa and Falcao will be wages. Not even comparable.

Man U also have the option to buy him. So Monaco think he'll be in their team and he's worth say £60M. Man U (and other clubs) want to buy him but only want to pay £40M as they don't know how he'll settle so it's a bit of a gamble and the 2 clubs are obviously miles apart. Doing it this way it's effectively just giving them a non-refundable deposit. Because they're not committed to the whole thing the buying clubs are prepared to offer more money than otherwise, and Monaco are prepared to do it that way because they know that either they'll get the money they want or they'll get back a player that they know is good enough for them.

I read a report it was 12 mill but now 6 mill ? I thought it was alot for a loan player, 200 g´s a week though phwee. He can´t have a future at Monaco if they send him out on loan, it´s not as if he´s 19 & up & coming is it. Still seems a strange deal to me. If it is to see if he can settle in that contradicts spending 60 odd mill on Di Maria ?

Once LVG sorts the defence out they will be a huge force in Europe again not just domestically ... despite all the bravado there will be some nervous looking over the shoulder by the main domestic rivals ... the Achilles heel may be that van Persie and Falcao may be more in competition on the treatment table than on the pitch ...

Nail on the head FF. As much as I hate Manc Poo their squad is getting there except their DEF. Can´t understand why that´s not been sorted.

I think it ihas started Foxes ... Rojo is big enough to play centre-half not just full back - Shaw once fit will be left back and Daley Blind, whilst I think will ultimately be a defensive mid can also play full-back / wing back ... I wouldn't rule them out moving for Vlaar in January - wouldn't be surprsed to see Phil Jones and Rojo as the centre-back pairing until then ...

Yeah, I saw the "option to buy" part of the deal later on in the evening. I think it's risky on Monaco's behalf. What if he gets an injury late on in the season and misses most of the next, so Man U decide not to buy? They've lost a top player for two years and only bought in £6m! Not sure what his contract is, but they also face the prospect of him going on a free after that! It's beginning to sound like a better deal for United now...

I think the fee United are eventually expected to pay is something like £26m. Not so comparable to Ulloa now, is it?

Settle was probably the wrong term in this case, I was thinking about normal "loan with a view to buy" deals. Was it Falcao that was injured for the World Cup? Would be a situation that suited both parties if there were concerns on Man U's part about the recovery from an injury but Monaco were confident he would be OK (concerns on that score would also explain them needing an extension on the paperwork).
