Listening to commentaries and reading about the international games and I'm fed up of finding the ball was on the 'wrong foot' or the 'weaker foot' of this or that (international, remember?)player. How, in this day and age, can club management and development schools not make sure all players can play the ball with both feet, passing, shooting, corners, free kicks, even penas? They have time on their hands like no other job so.......practice. Two-footed players have a great advantage. Most South American, Spanish, Italian and French players are. Not too many in England.
the supposed best player in the world can't use his right foot...Lionel Messi.... Another reason why Ronaldo is better imo, but I agree, just in training the occasional pass or shot with the left foot, just learning to control it with it... it is not difficult
Great post I agree 100% these premadona so called world class footballers stand on one and kick with the other there must be some two footed quality footballers around there is no excuses why a professional footballer can not be comfortable using both feet equally good
Messi excepted - as he's right up there with Pele, Maradonna, Best etc as among the best ever IMO - the fact that many modern day players are so one-footed is shocking. I'm in my 50's and only played football at a very modest level but could (probably still can) kick with both feet - though the left isn't as good as the right I wasn't afraid to use it ! I see many players now embarrassingly one footed ! - these are professional sportsmen for god's sake - they shoud be working on it ! Fair play to David Beckham - I once saw a report on the TV where he was described as spending extra training working on his weaker foot to the point where he could ping long balls accurately with it !
There are the exceptions to a rule in all walks of sport. Messi has no need to be two-footed as his one foot is so much better than almost everyone else! I've seen, defenders especially, working the ball onto their 'strongest' foot to hoof it clear and being caught in the process with resulting chaos and panic...goal. Micky Gray and the fool McCartney were highly guilty in their time here.
HBA Great post though mate, it really isn't that difficult, they're paid enough money to take the extra time to make sure they are competent with both feet.
It's what makes him dangerous. Doubt in the defender's mind and able to do something the opposition cannot easily contain.
