Tottenham are prepared to make Gareth Bale the highest paid player in their history with the club hoping to convince the in-form Welsh star to sign an improved contract in the summer, according to the Evening Standard.

Bale is odds on favourite to be named the Premier League's player of the season following a potent spell of goalscoring form, which has led to renewed speculation about a transfer to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Along with Real Madrid, Manchester City have also this week been credited with interest in Bale, while the former are reported to be planning a bid worth £50 million to bring the 23-year-old to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Evening Standard also claims Barcelona would be willing to meet the valuation of Bale, while Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are also among the clubs monitoring his situation with Tottenham.

Spurs, however, hope to keep Bale out of the clutches of Europe's elite by offering him a significant pay hike to commit himself to White Hart Lane, with a deal set to be tabled worth £130,000-a-week.

Bale will also be offered performance related bonuses and image rights over a four-year period, with Spurs reported to be hoping that they can keep the Wales international in north London for at least another season.

The former Southampton trainee only signed a new deal last year, but the improved terms would represent a marked increase on his current £75,000-a-week salary.

Not sure i believe all the figures being given, but yes, I can see Levy trying to get him to sign a longer contract - to increase his value, if nothing else.

Obviously, I would be delighted if he stayed with the club.

This is nothing more than speculation.

This would be worth our while though. If Gaz is on £130k instead of £75k it makes him much less desirable/approachable to even the biggest clubs. And we can't expect our best players to stick around if we're unwilling to pay them the market rate, realistically.

In other words let's speculate and make a story in the absence of any 'facts'.

I speculate that the Isle of Wight will be discovered to contain the worlds largest deposit of diamonds and the population will be tipped into the sea as the rush for the gems takes place.

I'm guessing the image rights is a big kicker? 130k could easily be eclipsed by other clubs. Look at the ****e on more than that at man city/chelsea for example.
How much does/could he make with image rights? He looks a bit like a monkey so modelling won't make him much i'm guessing?

Take into account that the taxman will be taking half of what he earns (England or Spain) the margins become much less acute. Realistically the most his take home pay is going to increase by is £25k if he moves to a bigger club (If he were on £130k at Spurs)

probably just speculation, but a great Idea if true.

55k extra a week should not only be enough to keep him, but also he should continue to get better, as he's so young. His development under AVB would suggest it'd go in that direction.

It's worth us paying the extra £2.86m p/a, as in a year's time his price tag might be even higher. That'd be a very good £2.86m investment, for so many reasons!

In a years time, he will be the same age Ronaldo was, when he left for Madrid. Now, i'm not saying he'll be a good as ronaldo, but we might currently get £50m for him now, where as in a year if he continues to produce the goods, we might get £70m ? (going by the numbers currently being quoted).

£2.86m for a return of £20m (+ everything we get out of him for another year)? Yes please.

Is that all? Not worth bothering, then.

Bale's image rights are probably worth quite a bit, but not in the Beckham/Ronaldo manner.
He's got a very clean and down to earth reputation, which is very attractive to sponsors, especially when you look at the likes of Tiger Woods, for example.

Thank **** for the decisions in the 1940s made by that German bloke called Adolf. <ok>
Er, wait a minute, I mean... It's good that Bale's sponsored by Adidas, then. :emoticon-0141-whew:

(For those that don't know, Adidas were formed in 1948 by Adolf Dassler after a row with his brother Rudolf, who went on to form Puma.)

I reckon a few cosmetic surgeons could use him in marketing campaigns...

He went by the name of Adi. Probably to differentiate himself from that house painter <ok>

  16. Guys, guys, guys! When are you going to start listening to what I've been telling you, consistently, for the past three seasons?

    BALE IS GOING NOWHERE!

    Now... deep breaths, and... RELAX!

Actually, the IOW is well known for erosion and landslides on its Southern coast. You rule out a cache of diamonds being discovered, but that might be exactly why it's happening ?
