  1. Extremely skillful, strong and powerful, but would he cut it in this league, and is he worth his 15/20 mil price tag? I think his goals/games avg at port is 1 every 2 games, but again that's in a foreign league.

I'm not sure I'd be as excited over him if his name was John Smith.

As you say, his goals were scored in a weaker league. Kuyt, Jo and Boyd all had similar scoring records before coming to England!

It's very hard to judge, even with the sacred youtube highlight video but I have faith in our scouting team to find out whether he is worth it or not. <ok>

Foreign strikers that usually don't make the grade lack one of two things, either the physicality or Technique. If you look at the top strikers in the league over the last couple seasons - Rooney, Drogba, Torres, Berbatov, - they all have great technique and are strong enough to handle the physical side of the Premier League.

Going by that, I think Hulk would cut it.

    YES!

As ModFace slightly insensitively pointed out (very funny!!!) I might not have paid as much attention to him if he wasn't named after a comic book hero with savage PMT, but regardless, I would LOVE him at the Toon...

Plus, Ashley would make a killing on shirt sales...who the **** wouldn't want to walk round with his name on their back? (Tiote and rival superheroes excluded)

I'd have it on my shirt, but I'd be wary of another Adriano, now plying his trade at moneybags Malaga.

Edit: And by Adriano I mean Baptista. Idiot!

Hulk has a higher profile than we seem to think, he could well be off to one of the CL teams and if not he will still go for an extortionate fee. We'd do well to convince him to come here and he still wouldnt be a guaranteed PL goalscorer.

Smudger, he's a recognised and well respected player, yes...But we can't underestimate a) the power of money and b) the pull of the Premier League!

I really do think we need a big named youngster (I'm aware of the fact Hulk is 4 letter and 1 syllable)...If not him then someone in the vein of Lukaku, Neymar etc.

I think they're both a bridge too far for us, but it's that level of youngster I want, someone exciting, and someone who will once again put us on the map!

We do have the money, but we dont need to fall into the trap Liverpool did and pay way over the odds, think Tiote more than Carroll (one tenth the price and a better player). As I say, we have the money but take Lukaku for example, frighteningly good talent, but I think it was Chelsea had a 20m bid rejected in Jan for him.

I'd like us to sign one proven PL striker like Pavlyuchenko and spend less on more of a gamble like van Wolfswinkel, Graham Carr and the scouts have found some class players from abroad recently.

Agree with Smudger. One proven quality PL striker like Pav/Vela(on loan)/Hugo R(Wigan/Welbeck(On loan)/Bendtner, etc.. and a good European level striker like Van Wolfswinkel, Ronald Vargas(Attacking Mid), Nelson Valdez(Hercules FC), etc...

Although someone like Hulk would be terrific!

Smudger, aye can't disagree at all there.

'IF' we can sign a Tiote-esque striker I'd be over the moon, imagine 4/5 more players like him...The reality is though, they're very tough to come by! Van Wolfswinkel would be a great acquisition as well IMO! Pav and Elmander are both decent shouts due to their contracts (though would Pav's wages not stand in the way of a move here?)

The one thing no-one can really throw at the Mike Ashley era, is that we've been 10x better in the transfer market! I can't actually think of a single big money flop?

The only questionable moves (as far as I can remember) are Perch, Routledge and Best BUT Perch is the complete all-rounder, something we needed and the perfect player to have on the bench. Playing anywhere across the back-4 and also as a DM, he's not a master of any position but useful all the same PLUS he hasn't really done anything badly in the past few appearances.

Best has come good (though granted it's early days) and his current goals to games is up there with the best (no pun intended). He was bought as a cheap player with potential and for the 1-3m figures i've heard we paid for him, his 5 goals have seemed worth it so far!

Routledge wasn't really given THAT much of a chance this season, purely down to the form of the rest of our midfield, but last season he changed our whole shape and style. He took us (merely by giving us another option down the right) from being a 1 dimensional but strong team, to being an exciting, dominating club. He guaranteed our promotion and so I can't complain at his price tag or acquisition at all!

All in all, if we can bring in a couple of surprise packages, I'll be happy. If we can bring in another Ben Arfa-eque name I'd be chuffed to bits! After all, at the end of that devestating 1:0 loss to Villa, who'd have thought we'd have bringing one of the most exciting names in French football to our club?
