... have performed better than Palace this season, if you had won the play - offs.

Just looking at your results this season, I must admit, I did think you would be in a better position (league wise) than you are at the moment.

Will be interested, as always, in your honest views.

I think if Watford had been promoted, GFZ would have had a different transfer schedule than what was actually achieved, making it difficult to assess!

I think if we had got promoted, we would have likely kept both Vydra and Chalobah. Having Vydra IMHO would have made a big difference to how we are playing this season, mainly due to the fact that I feel we are missing a striker that plays off the shoulder of the last man, and therefore 'forces' defenders to sit fractionally deeper, and allows us a little space to play in. We also miss Abdi (immensely) who has now been out for 6? Weeks, he along with Chalobah were our main source of incisive passes last year. Hard question, even harder answer...we will never know. Still think there is work to do but quietly confident that we will be there or there abouts come May.

It's a very good question and one that I was thinking about myself last night as I was watching the game. The quick and obvious response would be that if we had been promoted, the Pozzo's would have provided a much bigger war-chest for GFZ to bring in better players than he has been able for this season, but the weasel has brought in a lot of new players as well, so it's not a factor that can be relied upon. Personally I think we would have also struggled if it was us that had been promoted, as we have on the 2 previous visits to the promised land.

As others have said, our player roster would doubtless be different - would hate to speculate in what way though - meaning that, as for both last season and this season, a period of 'bedding-in' would probably see us currently struggling. But, equally probably, we'd get through that and survive.

I think that had we made it then the Pozzos would have provided the players to help us stay there. Most of the ones we have seen from them have been not getting regular game time or have been coming back from injury. I think that would have been different as the prize money for staying in the Prem is far higher than Italy or Spain. Every team that gets promoted struggles to adapt, and it can take some of the yo-yo seasons before a team is a regular member of the PL, West Brom being a good example. In the case of Palace they brought in loads of players who were of dubious quality and according to their fans the manager does not seem to have a proper game plan to use them. I think that Vydra would have stayed if we had been promoted, but he has been injured for weeks so would not have been available if it had happened with us.

We just don't know what would have happened, but I like to think that we will be better prepared to play in that division when it does happen than Palace have been.

Finally the weasel has come out after last night. He is blaming that bringing in 13 players has meant a lack of team spirit in the dressing room...

dont think it would of made a lot of odds myself, Watford are conceding too many in the championship against average attacks

As others have said I think the Pozzo's would have provided the playing resources to secure premiership survival which could be built upon in subsequent seasons as many of the current players may not be up to it sadly.

Another question would be whether GFZ has the ability to make a team of these resources and get them to play his entertaining style of football without us losing the games we should win the Prem. He would be given a chance I am sure but if he was not delivering then.... depends how ruthless the Pozzo's are?

You have to admit though don't you that Kasami's goal last night was just a little bit special

If we had played as well as we did for most of last season on the big day, there'd be no need for this thread.

To answer the question, I agree with the majority in that if we'd gone up, we would have been looking at different players.

I think our attack would have been better, Matej Vydra would deninately have stayed with us - and I hold him and his tantrum the reason we are not in the Premiership now. Our defence would have been strongr as the options for GFZ would have been different.

One thing. Lloyd Doyley would still be in the team as he can do anything.

Slowly sharpening the knife before your promotion, are you?

Anyways, back to the point. We will never know but surely would have had more points than Palarse now in the Prem.

Fair play they won the play-off. I can only sit back and hope they continue their losing streak and hopefully Hollowhead will get the sack after a few more losses. Bitter and twisted, maybe!

boringly, i have to agree with everyone else! lol. We would have had different players come in, and it would have been again down to Zola to make the team gel. Whether that would have happened in time for us to stay up or not is the question. I do believe though, stay up or not, we'd have done better than Palarse are doing, but that's not difficult ;) Mex, if Hollowhead gets the sack they might start improving, and that would never do! lol...(just as bitter and twisted here? ;) )

Doubt it - what makes you think we'd want him after he couldn't even cut the mustard with your lot? :)

One things for sure - our manager would have been a bit more gracious and less prone to blaming the ref, the opposition players, the current state of British music and the conjunction of Jupiter with the moon for every defeat they've had.
