Now I know our old mate Gareth McAuley divided opinion amongst fans, some were sad to leave him go some werent. i personally wanted was a big fan, and wanted him to stay but i also thought paul jewell would buy a bloody replacement. what i am almost certain of is that we wouldn't have conceded 12 goals in the last two games and wouldn't be in this supposed dire mess we are in. so i guess the question is, would those people who weren't bothered about him leaving to West Brom have him back in a heartbeat? in my opinion, a no-brainer
Course I'd have McAuley back. Not only was he undefeated in the air, but he made Delaney play brilliantly!
Of course, he's a top championship defender who would put our current crop of defenders to shame (Ingi apart)
Yep, thought he was a good player and a no-brainer from his part going to W,B,A Rather Pablo Ibanez , who I believe we have a decent chance of acquiring on loan....
Yes he was the one who we needed to keep last season majorly, I can't believe some peole wanted him to go and Delaney to stay. For us to get a placement of the same ability and experience we will have to fork out alot of money. Its dissapointing when I think if he was offered a contract last summer he would have signed it, infact he said as much himself. I don't think he made Delaney play brilliantly from what I've seen this season Delaney is no different to what he was like last year its just he always had McAuley to bail him out. I often think that people who didn't think McAuley was a good player last season thought this because of the guys around him last year were niave defensively aka Edwards whose positioning was worse last season than it is this season understandably. I remember saying last season to people who thought he wasn't very good that he was having to do the work of 3 players. I think from the defence this season it can be seen how badly we miss him. I think he could have been reinstated as captain this season, I think he could've handled the responsibility this time round.
Yes & No Yes -he is without doubt better than our other options at CB put together and he did impress on many occasions but he often had shaky periods and to be honest he wasnt in the same league as the likes of De Vos, McGreal etc. Its a sad fact that we long for average players to return here and shows how far we have fallen. Other than Chopra and Stockdale would anybody pick any of our current first team over the one that Magilton had on his first game in charge?
No he was weak and i would rather get John Wark out of retirement than to get 'OLD SHANDY PANTS' back....
