    HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION TIME.

As a Spurs fan would you be willing for the team to 'throw' a football match if it prevented one of our big rivals from winning the league, and the result was totally inconsequential to us?

Would fans and players feel different on the issue?

This obviously relates to the Chelsea v Leicester game at the end of the season, and specifically the comments made by Hazard on MOTD that he wants Leicester to win the league over us.

    Yes anyone would.
But trust me - Chelsea vs Leicester will most likely irrelevant.
Our boys will be out in full force on May 2nd and Title ends then.
    Up the Blues!!

  3. Posted my comments on the Rival thread before seeing yours....

Just listened to Hazard on MOTD publicly stating that the Chavs don't want Spurs to win the title (No ****, Sherlock!) and that they think Leicester 'deserve' it. No surprise there, just strange and rather stupid to announce it.

Now, I wasn't expecting any favours in the game next week or for them to bust a gut against Leicester in the last match of the season, but that goes further in my opinion and depending on their level of performance on 15th May should warrant greater scrutiny. Unprofessional at best, potentially match-fixing at worst.

Also no surprise that it was laughed off by the MOTD pundits.

That "they deserve it" line irritated me too. They won't have deserved it until they've finished the season with more points than us, if it is vice versa and we finish with more points than them, then we have deserved it. If Leicester win the league as a result of the Chavs gifting them the last game of the season, then in fact to the contrary of Hazard's belief, they won't have deserved it.

All Chelsky players are showing is the immense scale of unprofessionalism that is endemic at the club.

If the Spurs game is their cup final, and they are happy for a Fulop-gate at Leicester, is it any wonder
this season that they have not performed remotely close to their innate ability and for the wages they
are paid (Jose meltdown or not) ??

I still believe (perhaps naively) in the integrity of the English game. The way our teams play - with passion, commitment, intensity - means that every game is a contest. The ethos is to win every game even when the result might not make much of a difference. I'd like to think Chelsea will want to finish as high as they can. However, having said all that, it's not ideal that they potentially have such a big say in the destiny of the title.

I remember back in 1999 or 2000 when the gooners and united were fighting for the title on the last day of the season. The goons were playing villa and needed us to win at united. It was a horrible build up to the match.to be honest. To me it summed up how **** we were as a team that our end of season came down to stopping the goons winning the league by losing to united. If our players had made comments like Hazard and co. I would have been livid to be honest.
As it goes we took the lead and played well but still lost.
If I were a Chelsea fan I would not be impressed by these comments. Chelsea's motivation at the end of their worst season in around 20 years should be to play well to try and make it up to their fans.
Hazard was an idiot trying to suck up to chelsea fans. If he had any intelligence he'd have said that he did not want to be in the first chelsea team to lose at home to spurs in 20 years ... he gets to make a dig at us which is justifiable, to suck up to the chelsea fans and doesn't end up looking like a cock!
Personally I don't think it matters...If don't beat them we have no chance of winning the league but even if we do we still need to win 3 other matches and hope Leicester drop 5 points from just 4 matches.

It was only a few years ago that City Played Everton at Goodison with Liverpool standing to benefit in their title challenge were any points dropped. It's a strange atmosphere there at the best of times but they almost forgot to celebrate when Ross Barkley scored an absolute cracker. City endedup winning but no one could question the Everton players, they were very much trying to win even if the fans weren't quite sure what to do.

If it comes down to Leicester's game against Chelsea it will be very different. The fans will be revelling in it and the players appear to be too. They won't be investigated for fixing, even Chelsea players aren't that stupid and the PL will only act if it's absolutely blatant. Terry just needs to play Vardy onside a few times and chase back in vain, it won't be obvious enough for the PL and the sycophants will point to Vardy tearing Terry to pieces earlier in the seaosn as signs it's not a fix.

Ah well, I've never thought we could rely on Chelsea, all the more reason for us to try our hardest to win the rest of our games. At best we get above them before the last game of the season, at worst we keep Leicester honest, even if we can't keep Chelsea honest.

Actually a sign of class would have been the Chelsky players saying :

We are the current PL champions.
Those who would be king still have one game to play against us, and
are going to have to put in a performance worthy of taking the crown.

    Load of BS!!

If your visit & Leicester game were swapped - it might be worth while griping like you said.

But your visit before Leicester means - there is no point talking about our performance on the last day.
Leicester don't need us to drop against them.

Like Fab said - Leicester would have won the title before Kick off at Bridge. <doh>

Not for the title but if throwing a match got the goons relegated I'd be up for it.

Looks like the Chavs are having a hard time dealing with the fact they are the Nick Clegg of this title race, rather than the Augusto Pinochet they expected to be...

Sad chelsea fan comes on spurs board bragging cos we will not win the title when his team has ...
    a) sacked it's legendary manager
    b) been dragged into a legal battle over the treatment of a club doctor
    c) produced the worst defence of a premier league title in living memory
    d) announced they will be changing managers in May, making it 3 in just 6 months.
    e) will not qualify for the CL for the first time in around 12 or 13 years
    f) can not decide whether t give their self proclaimed leader, legend, captain a new contract.

I would be so ****ed off if our players put more effort into mouthing off about another team than bothering to win matches.

Apologies for not helping your title ambitions today - no one threw the game it's just that our players have been making sandcastles and / or dreaming of the Euro's for 2 weeks.
That said - Leicester seem to be the referees favourite team. Should have lost to WHU last week and today had three questionable goals (hand ball, two handed push on Williams as he was about to clear and off side).

    No problem.

If the gap remains 5 pts by the end, then the Leicester away results at Spurs and Citeh
in close succession could be said to be the difference - and on those results alone
(away wins against the likely 2nd/3rd place finishers when they were close) that would
    be merit enough.

If Spurs were in a position in which we had nothing to play for and a loss in our next game meant either Chelsea, Arsenal or West Ham would miss out on the title or be relegated, I'd fully expect an own goal hat trick by Harry, Hugo to play up front and Tommy Carroll to martial the defence at CB.

There's nothing worse than seeing a rival win something, so I have that petty attitude in which I'd side with the "all things necessary" way in ensuring we do our best to make sure they win nothing. I mean can you honestly imagine us winning a game in which it helps Arsenal or Chelsea lift the title? ****ing unthinkable in my eyes.

It's why I'm not even mad at Hazard's and Fabregarse's recent comments, it's fully expected and if the shoe were on the other foot I'd fully expect one of our lads to say the same.

I would expect any player not to be stupid enough to say it in public, even if they were intent
on doing the deed should it come to that.

I suppose it depends where you're coming from, I reckon the Chelsea fans are loving their comments.

Though IF it does go down to the final game - which I don't expect if I'm being honest - and Chelsea do somewhat roll over, it wouldn't surprise me if the FA had a look into their comments and possibly acted if they felt their performance was a bit fishy, although saying that, Chelsea have been so **** this season it'd probably just look like a typical display for them!
