A completely hypothetical question, but if we had the chance to re-sign RVP, would you accept him back?. You can't doubt RVP's quality and in the last few years he has become a goal scoring machine and he would be clearly be perfect in our system as the lone CF. But, he did stab us in the back and also it looks his injury problems are back. I am very conflicted on this one, but just based on his sheer quality, I would.
Considering his injury problems, it's amazing that he managed to stay fit for the whole of that 2011/12 season and got us into the CL with us basically just looking at him to get all the goals.
Nope, he should have never left us to start with, the ship has sailed, he's burned his bridges with Arsenal, let him rot at United.
Thinking about it logically for a second, what he (Judas) did is effectively what TH14 did, left for money and success, yet because TH handled himself so much better (being the gent he is), the outcomes are vastly different. RVP is mocked and ridiculed, TH is worshipped as a god.
And the fact he joined Man Utd, while Henry moved abroad. I think if RVP went somewhere abroad, then we would just look at him like another Fabregas. A player who at the time was far too good for us and had moved to try and win things.
Well, it looks like not many of us want RVP back, what about Rooney, then? Approaching the final year of his contract and there are no signs that he is going to renew his contract at United.
I've said no, though I would take Van Persie back if he was happy to accept a drastic cut to his current wage. He's a great player but not worth the £150k or whatever it is he's getting at United due to his age and patchy injury record. I'd happily support him again if he was in an Arsenal shirt, despite what has passed. I would take Rooney too, though I wouldn't expect him to be used as an extra striker so I'd still want to see someone come in to challenge Giroud.
To be fair he got his first league winners medal in his first season away from the club, so on an immediate personal level he made the right decision. I bet he feels like a bit of a dope now Fergie has left though.
No to RVP returning - I cannot put my finger on any specific reason but I just feel it would be wrong. Not too sure about Rooney - too expensive and too much baggage but a bloody good player who would be an asset to any team in purely football terms alone. But it wont happen anyway - he wont come to us.
I'd have him back (if healthy). I think he handled the situation poorly but I never begrudged him for wanting to have success and he achieved it instantly (the tw*t!). I never agreed with the mercenary tag as we were willing to offer obscene money to keep him, I just think for him it was about trophies. Just wish it hadn't been England is all... Still, he's an amazing player and I've no doubt we'd have a few more points if we'd had him up front this year. His movement with the likes of Ãzil and Cazorla supplying him would get you goals, and plenty of 'em.
Same here, I'd have him back too. How many players are truly loyal nowadays? Not bloody many and unfortunately it's more about the money than anything else. Do I like him, not very much. Is he a top player? hell yes. Do we need another striker to give us a better chance and will he provide it? Definitely yes. Whether we like it or not it's about having the strongest squad available to win the Premiership. His class would undoubtedly give us that edge and it's not like Man City and Chelsea operate on any level playing field is it!!!!
On an emotional level, no. It's like taking your ex gf back after she's slept with your rival and comes back to you with herpes. Ok, maybe not the best analogy but my point is RVP has tainted himself and decreased in value.
I understand what you are saying, but I find the judgement that he would make us better interesting. Haven't had it proved to us that a player is not necessarily "better" than another in all circumstances forever? As teams and systems change, so does the comparative value of players to the side. So Podolski is better than Giroud, common wisdom, but not playing as a lone striker in our current system. Similarly, you are never going to play Giroud as left wing. There is no guarantee that RVP will be better either.
Well if you think like that then having Messi or Ronaldo wouldn't improve us either. RVP has been proven top class in the premiership, he was instrumental in pulling us into the top 4 the season before he left. There is no mistaking that RVP is a one of the best Premiership players and if Manure didn't buy him then they would have struggled/or not won the Premiership without his services. I'm not sure what is happening with him at present but since SAF left, he hasn't been the same player.
As far as I'm concerned RVP is just another ex-player much the same as Fabregas,Nasri,Clichy etc.It was his choice to go and personally I wouldn't want him back.
