Carl Matthews life was a series of unfortunate and hearbreaking events, until he suddenly won $362,259 from an online game he was paid to play. Now his ex-girlfriend is begging for him back.
A lovesick New Zealand man dumped by his girlfriend of four years, was browsing the web when he came across an offer he could not refuse. Carl Matthews, 26, from Auckland, New Zealand had just lost his job, and had incurred over $9,300 of credit card bills he could not afford to pay back. Just when he thought his situation could not get any worse, his beloved girlfriend, Amy Parkinson, decided to call it quits.
Amy admits, "I was just over his lack of motivation. Carl was the sweetest guy, but was in a never-ending hole. My girlfriends would continuously tell me that I needed someone with drive, who could look after me financially and I just never saw Carl being that person."
Little did Amy know, Carls life was about to dramatically change. Those $30 free dollars that initially aroused his interest ended up multiplying for him over 10,000 times. After spinning for 14 minutes, Carl won a progressive Jackpot on the Bingo Liner game "The Posh Life". Soon, he received a massive sum of $362,259.03 in his bank account.
"I was at an absolute loss of words. I could not believe I had just won all of this money, all from one lucky spin. My life was in the slums and this was just what I needed to get me back on track. God is clearly on my side. I am beyond excited to restart my life with this new found wealth" Matthews reported when describing his reaction to this massive win.
The story was soon after picked up by local newspaper, The NZ Herald. Amy, who receives this paper daily immediately saw her ex-boyfriend on the cover. Her feelings towards Carl quickly changed. "She started calling, texting, emailing, saying she wanted to give it another go. Saying she wanted to make it work. That she loved me, she missed me, she couldn't imagine life without me," Carl reported.
Carl currently remains single. Amy remains persistent in giving their relationship another go.

Difficult one to judge.

The story suggests that she abandoned him at a time when he needed her most.

But he comes across as a fellow who is unmotivated [lazy?] - who lost his job and got lucky via online gaming.

He would forever wonder whether she just loves the lifestyle - and he's the means to that for her. And from her perspective. there's even less reason for him to be ambitious and driven. So when the money runs out is she going to be any happier??

Why doesn't he take her back to share the experience of blowing the money together; and agree to split up again when the last cent is spent.

In an odd way it might tell them both whether they're really in it for the money, or each other.

 

Yes, for one last shag and then dump her.

 

He's won less than £200k, a one room flat in a ****ty bit of London. Unless he uses it to start a business to earn a decent living or multiply several times by betting with it, it'll be gone pretty quickly. Perhaps his best investment would be a flight to London, we are short of Antipodean bar staff.

 

Of course he shouldn't take her back. He probably will, though.

To be fair, it must be difficult to be with someone who has no motivation to earn a living...but that said, she doesn't come across well here. However, this is a story being told in media, so they will always try to portray someone as a baddy for a good story. If it is as the story says it is, he should politely tell her to look elsewhere as he doesn't want someone who loves him just for his money.
