Every time i see Derby play he is the man making things happen ,he obviously had issues with drinking and acting a twat in the past but he is going to be one of the top scorers and a match winner week in week out this term.
I personally have no problems rehiring ex players if they are going to improve the side and would love to sign Martin but not for more than about £2-3m .
So what do other not606ers think about about him?

I think the making of him was escaping the area and the limited views of people who hang on the EDPs every word. Even years after if someone mentioned his name, you'd get a bad egg type comment, based on nothing but regurgitated rumour and some trouble he got in as a youngster. I can't imagine he'd want to come back anyway, his game has come on leaps and bounds since departing.

He was hopelessly out of shape when he left. Technically very good for this division, rarely scuffed or miss hit a shot. I always liked him until he looked unfit.

Issue was always getting him in a position to score

That is very true ,you would think he murdered someone by the way some people speak about him.

He has ties with the area that are no good for him I'm afraid.

I think he would just slip back into old habits and would get distracted again. It's not a slight on him as a player but it's no coincidence that when he left the area he greatly improved as both a player and an individual.

So, it's a no from me.

I see that 'pissoff' has voted. I always hang on his every word. <ok>

To answer the question - no. He got away from the bad things that threatened to ruin his career, and has turned things around.

No, agree with most on here. Coming back would not be a good idea for him personally due to his history in the region. He has turned his life around and made a success of his career. Which, I will admit, I didn't think he could do.

I am genuinely happy for him that he has managed to salvage his career, he was very close to throwing it all away, but as others have said, this area holds some bad influences on him and I fear he would very quickly slip back into his old ways! Sad but true!

Is it true though? Not having a pop - just see these sort of things alluded to, and while in the past (about 7 years back maybe at a a guess) he might have hung out with some numpties - aside from a couple of articles about him scrapping I dont really know where this came from?

Lets not try and rewrite history here to make out he was a goody goody twoshoes. It was not just one incident in Beccles - it was a whole series leading to visits to the Police Station and, finally, being banned from every Pub in the area. He eventually moved away from that area and then got involved in incidents in the Wymondham area needing Police intervention. Has he changed - perhaps but could we really risk it. We got one good season out of him as have Derby. It will be interesting to see how he gets on this season.

Why would Chris Martin want to leave a club that in all probability will be promoted this year, for a side that in all probability will be relegated ? <whistle>

I would like to see a cheeky £3m bid the boy is on fire and will drive Derby to a top 4 spot IMO.
