Man City today posted record losses of 194.9 million pounds and must leave a big question, would you want us to be City. Would I like their squad, bet you life I would. Would I want to watch their brand of football, bet your life I would. But, what if the owners say I'm off, they could do that at any time, what happens to City then? This will no doubt bring City fans crying you are just jealous, you want what we have, we are top of the table. I wish we had it and I wish we were top, but, I would be concerned, enjoy today but concerned about tomorrow. Or does tomorrow matter, here at Sunderland we are concerned about our tomorrow so would Cities worries be easier to live with than ours?
The owners wouldnt just waltz off and drop them though would they? The same could be said about Abramovich but he has been here 9 years and I'd have a bit of what Chelsea have had mate. The scaremongering is all well and good but there is no evidence that these individuals or companies have ever let the clubs suffer. Ridsdale buggered Leeds with debts he could never sustain. He over stretched with other people money. Both Abramovich and the Arabs have more personal money than most countries mate and its like us spending pennies. If they left they could finance their way out of the contracts and debts and most probably would, as it just wouldnt be beneficial for them not to. They wouldnt be able to conduct another business deal if they just walked away from football and bankrupted them in doing so. Their pride and ego's would prevent this as well. I wouldnt mind being a point behind City this year with all the risk that had attached, with a benefactor of the kind they both have. Absolutely I would.
Unitl you have built a brand like Man U, Real Madrid, Barcelona etc, there is always a risk that if the owners have enough your club will be stuffed. I would much rather be in Man Citys position if their owners wanted out than ours if Short wanted out. Man City it seems are well on their way to being a big club, thus being a more attractive proposition. Having said that less people could afford the club. In short, any club with a single owner is at risk, some are more at risk than others, but its all relative to status and position.
I do not think the Ambrov or the Arabs could easily walk away, so with that as a given, I have no problem with a realistic chance of winning the league, having Barca playing at the SoL in the champions league, having world class starts banging in goals right left and centre..we can only dream. m I jealous of Citeh...you bet! Besides which it is not my money and I do not think the rich owners would allow their clubs to do aLeeds!
I wouldn't swap places how boring would it be scoring four or more goals a game with no real competition in the league ;-) Whereas following Sunderland is like having bi-polar disorder and being off your meds! Everydays an adventure!
