Serious question, not here for an argument. I am trying to guage how fans of other top 10 teams rate Alex Song. Would you swap Parker for Song if given the chance ?
Depends on which song! Now this one and I might think about it, but not for a couple of years.
Ignoring the age difference, then I probably wouldn't. Parker's very good at doing his job. Song's being allowed to develop his overall game, but he often ignores his principle role. Hard to tell whether it's down to ability and attitude or coaching.
I guess we could sell Song for more, as he's younger and then buy Parker back off you but otherwise no. Song can pick a pass, is decent on the ball and gets forward well but he's a liability at the back, which is where Parker is so important for us.
No I wouldn't either. I've never really see much of Song, seems like a good player though a bit rugged at times (though what DM isn't?) Parker has been a God send to us, one of our best signings in years, don't think I'd swap him for any other DM in the league possibly even Europe at the moment if I'm honest. He just fits in with our squad perfectly, it's as if he's been here years.
I thought we made a mistake not buying Parker, I think he is quality. I'm having an argument, someone suggested Song would get into any top side .. so I thought I'd ask fans of top ten teams. Liverpool wouldn't swap Lucas for him and Newcastle wouldn't swap Tiote for him. Chelsea would swap Essien or mereiles for him, Man U wouldn't swap Carrick for him. Sunderland would swap Cattermole for him
You asked us about the wrong player, Song might technically count as the defensive midfielder at Arsenal but I don't think it's a good idea to play him there. I'd have him in our squad behind Modric and maybe Huddlestone, playing alongside a more defensively sound midfielder like Parker, Sandro or Livermore. I'm not sure he'd fit all that well into our system though.
I think someone should clarify this article by pointing out that Hothead hates Song, so he is trying to get a reaction from Spurs fans with this article. By the way Song and Parker are very different players. Parker is purely a DM Song is more of a CM we dont play a pure DM those duties are shared, Arteta does allot of tracking back too.
Song can also play as a defender, so he's got versatility on his side, but I'd rather have Parker playing in the holding role, as he sticks to it. Song would play well alongside Huddlestone or Sandro, but I don't think he'd complement Modric.
Frimpong also walks around shouting "DENCH" every 2 minutes ... I think we can all assume Frimpong has lost it a little
