Here's a question for you. There's no doubt that a large portion of that £35m we got for Carroll needs spending on strikers. So, considering we sold one striker for £35m, would you be willing to spend less than a third of that on a piece of young hot property this summer?

We need someone of great quality to fill the number 9 spot and personally I think Wickham would be worth every single penny if we could get him for £10m.

What are your thoughts, would he be a big risk at such a young age?

No I would not, too much money for an unproven and not that prolific striker, (and thats in the CCC).

No... Unless he does chores as well.

Too big a risk to fill a vital position.

Smudger my boy said it as it should be said.

We both have minds alike eh Smudger?

Too much of a risk, simply. 5m with potential add ons(raising to a possible 10m/12m) if he proves he's good then fine.

It rumoured we would sign Gervinho for 10m? I'd much rather have him <ok>

if theres enough left at the end. I want Gervinho, a centre back and that iclandic guy that came up the other day. If theres enough left then yeh it'll be a gamble. Remember Bale took 20+ games to win in a tottenham shirt and 1and a half years ago that looked like 10mil down the drain

If I was Man City, Man U, or one of the other teams with money to burn then yes because they can afford the luxury of spending that much on a player for the future. For us though it would not be sensible to spend that much of our transfer budget on a player that in all probability will not give us much for a few seasons.

Nope, not proven at Championship level, never mind PL level so £10m is out the question.
Would consider taking him for under £4m though, as he has signs of potential, is young and British, but think other teams would put higher bids in than that.

If we offered £5 million upfront, then add future payments dependant on goals, final league positions, league appearances, international caps etc then yes. Not £10 million though. If he wasn't English we'd probably get him for £3/4 million.

To quote yourself, spot on. 5mil is as much as I'd pay for him with a bonus if he gets X amount of goals in his first 50/100 apps

It is, but he's the type of player that is already playing for the England U21's and I can see him playing in the Premier League next year, I personally think he's ready.

I mean there's no denying he's got potential, but we need established/experienced talent. For all I care Wickham is no better than our own Ranger in all honesty. Ranger would be a complete beast in the Championship.

Agree with most on here, I rate him but at this stage, wouldn't pay more than £5m. We're not in the position to be buying a luxury player, we need a striker (or two) ready to step in and do a job.

As most other people have said, £10m is way too much for an unproven Championship player and I'd definitely rather spend £15m on Gervinho.

This is one of the problems with youth development in England. You get youngsters such as Wickham and Chaimberlan who show some promise, and as soon as any clubs get interested their clubs put a ridiculous price tag on them. This means that only the top clubs can afford them, only for the youngsters to rot away in the reserves or under 18's. Also the ridiculous prices mean that you can get two or three foreign players who show just as much potential.

    Rant over.

Exactly, they're either stuck at the **** club where their development is halted, or they end up stuck in the reserves of the likes of Citeh.
