In my opinion the only fly's in the ointment of this season(2014/2015) fixtures are

Bradford and Port Vale as Tuesday nights game

The conference teams and rugby league team hand pick their fixtures.

Would you like the option of hand pick football teams fixtures?

I do not believe it would be practical for each club to work out their own fixture list.

However, this one aspect of the Football League, has deteriorated since the good old, bad old days, when one man at the Football League used to produce the fixture lists manually.
It was always my understanding, that at the AGM of the League, clubs gave this guy a note of things they wanted regarding fixtures.
Some were preferences for local derby match dates, like City would not want Rovers at Christmas or Easter because they would get a much bigger gate that day anyway so in effect would be losing the extra revenue of a derby played away from public holidays.
Others were like Shrewsbury Town asking not to have a home game on same August Saturday as the Town's Flower Show because the traffic for that just clogged up all roads.
The fixture lists produced by this one man, were very well thought out. Rarely were fixtures repeated in consecutive seasons, eg Blackpool away last day of season, clubs played home away home away for the majority of matches and things like Boxing Day fixtures were home one year, away the next year.

Since a computer has been used, it is awful IMO, The fixtures are full of two home or two away consecutively, away or home every Boxing or New Year.
Shrewsbury often have had to postpone a game because it is the same day as the Flower Show. Very long journeys for midweek evening games and so on.
Two consecutive away games with very long trips to the same part of the country. Eg Fleetwood on a Tuesday followed by PNE on the following Saturday.
So bring back the old way or find someone who can actually programme the computer to do it properly.

    End of rant.

Where possible midweek games should not involve long travel - I appreciate this is harder to achieve in the Championship where there are a large number of midweek games due to the International breaks

Even harder in our division as the largest proportion of teams are Midlands/North.
