With the recent performances being what they are some fans seem a little downhearted but if you were asked at the begining of the season we would be in this position in the table with the points we have would you have taken it? sorry for spelling mistake and running out of space on poll because i have never done one before
Safely 9th at start of 2014....hell yes. Disappointing only in that we unrealistically were near the top of the league at one point. It's a shame that there is a gap above us because the odd win will probably have no effect (other than to consolidate our position). Cannot see us overtaking more than one team above us, but 8-9th would be a good position come the end of the season. Dropping into the bottom half by May would be majorly disappointing now.
Yes certainly. Anyone would have taken 9th if they're honest. Once we get our first team back then I'm sure the disappointment will go and we can start playing well again. Being forced to play Gazza, Jos, Fox, Chambers and Ramirez has left us treading water somewhat especially as it coincided with the tough run of matches, but hopefully soon we are through the worst of it. Against the weaker teams we might get away with playing so many back-ups, but it has shown vs the better teams that they are not up to the standard.
We completely outplayed Cardiff and dominated against Villa. Yes we have struggled a bit against the top 6 but with lots of injuries to key players. Get Vic back and watch us start flying again.
The vast majority so far would have taken 9th, and I'm with them. In all honesty I would take 9th at the end of the season, albeit with a small amount of disappointment. However, I am absolutely certain that Nicola Cortese will not be happy with 9th place, unless we win the FA Cup.
I think our current league position reflects the depth in our squad rather than the quality of our "first eleven". The disappointment I feel comes from achieving this position with a 50/50 split of Champions League form and relegation form.
I guess in the end I would have turned it down, just because if we played it out there was some small chance we could be top 6 or top 4 which would be awesome. Conversely, the downside might have been 14th or something which wouldn't really bother me that much. But I suppose the question is really more what I expected from the club. I expected we'd be just about where we are. Agree with hotbovril though that I didn't expect this kind of roller coaster. The team has been both a lot better and a lot worse at times than I would have thought.
I'm saying 'no', not because I am unhappy but because we are around about where I thought we'd be. For me to say 'yes' rather than roll the dice, we'd have to be above where I thought we'd be.
