Would you have Cole back and for what cash?

Discussion in 'Arsenal' started by Robin van Bergkamp, Mar 1, 2012.

  1. I spotted this while trawling NewsNow a moment ago and wondered what fans here think about the proposition. Yes, it's silly season time. We're probably linked with upwards of half a dozen players this summer, the majority of whom we are unlikely to get anyway but if this man comes at a reasonable price, would you have him back?

He left during that awful time when a particularly unpleasant Russian oligarch and his equally-unpalatable manager were flashing around their overinflated chequebook. No one but they were happy but seven years on, what do you think about a possible return of Ashley Cole? Forgive and forget and let's get on with the business of winning again or move on to someone else?

    What do you think pals?

You'd be mad to take him back, you already have 2 proper left backs and he's been no better than them this season. He also acted like a twat when he left so I can't see the merit in taking him back on huge wages and he seems to be an unsettling influence when things aren't going well.

Also Goal don't have much credibility, he moans about being left out of the side and lack of trophies. I think he'll be heading abroad for his last big payday either to an obscure league like China or perhaps to a slower league like Serie A.

  3. Indeed he was an ' arsle ' when he left alright. It was all a very unsatisfactory affair. I suppose we need to concentrate on a defensive strategy as opposed to just having defenders.

Cole is now past his best. He's still got a few years left at the top level but he would'nt be worth the money.

  6. Never in a million years.

Unless it was a free transfer on a pay as you play basis.

Then, as soon as he walked through the door for his first day I would have a press conference organised to fire him.

Cant see why you lot have a problem with him to be honest.
It aint like he was a money grabbing, self serving, twatish, foul mouth arse who epitimises every thing wrong with prem football, who shoots work experience volunteers with an air rifle is it?

Seems like we are grown up about it - and don't bear grudges.

    Cashley will be pleased.

saying all that though Cole is better than Clichy who in tern is better than Gibbs. We seem to be going for a downgrade each time we get a replacement.

I dunno TheBear, I think Gibbs had a cracking game after the first 20 mins against Spurs. I don't think clichy was better than Gibbs when he left us.

Gibbs hasn't improved because of his injury problems. If he could have a decent run of games there's no doubt he'd be better than Clichy

Sure but Clichy had many cracking games for us. (particularly when he first came in to the team)
I'm not convinced about Gibbs i think he's a decent player but nothing special.

Either way neither one has the all round quality Ashley Cole once gave us.

Don't forget Andre Santos, I think he could still do a good job for us.

True, he started to look good before he picked up his injury.

Andre Santos was just stringing a good run of solid performances before that injury. Massive shame for him. He is two weeks away from training I think. His attacking abilities will without a doubt add a different side to our game. Scored two goals in his Arsenal career so far, more then Clichy has managed in his entire career at Arsenal. Like the balance of Sagna and Santos as full backs. One is a better attacker then defender (Santos) while the other is more of a defender.

    No and No again.
The man showed his true colours, remember £55k a week wasn't enough he wanted £60k a week because clearly the extra £5k a week makes a difference to ones lifestyle !!!
Remember also the covert hotel meetings with Chelsea officials.
The man is a **** and doesn't deserve to wear the shirt again, plus as others have said he's now past his best...
