Obviously the Higuain rumours have been very strong and we have also been fairly regularly linked with Fellaini.

If we signed these two and get rid of some/all of the deadwood in the squad (which we seem to be doing) would you all think it was a successful transfer window?

Do we need to add more than just two players? Are these the right positions to strengthen? Fans have been calling for a top striker and DM type player for a while now and the two mentioned above seem to fit this bill.

It would give us some good strength in depth and choices for different opponents. We could have a CM pairing of Arteta/Ramsey which has done well this season, Fellaini/Arteta who have played together previously, Arteta/Wilshere or Fellaini/Wilshere with cazorla sitting infront. It also means we have a choice of strikers, Higuain as the first choice, Giroud for more physical games and to close out games and Walcott against slow defences.

A couple of teams we could field:

    Physical team:
    -----------Scz----------
    Sagna--Kosc--Mert--Gibbs
    ------Arteta---Fellaini----
    Walcott-----Wilshere-----Cazorla
    ------------Giroud--------

    Skillfull team:
    -----------Scz-----------
    Sagna---Kosc---Mert---Monreal
    --------Arteta----Wilshere----
    Walcott------Cazorla-----Podolski
    -------------Higuain---------

With Ramsey, Rosicky, Oxocube, Gervinho, Vermaelen, Jenkinson able to slot in when needed it looks like quite a strong squad to me.

We are possibly still a little thin at the back with flappy out of contract and djourou/squillaci moving on - maybe a versatile young defender and a back-up keeper may be needed?

Id also add another skillfull AM, one who can either slot in along the front 3 or in midfield. Isco would be my preference, i'd be happy with Rooney as well (although his wages would probably be an issue), Fabregas if he is ready to move on yet, or another player of top ability like these 3. With Rosicky getting older it would be good to bring in a replacement who can have some time to settle in if they are fairly young but we may leave this until next season.

If we signed Higuain/Fellaini would you be happy, would you strengthen in other positions and are there any particular players along with those two who you think could take us to the next level? With these players could we challenge for the title again?

With Higuain and Fellaini i think we will cement top 4 and be in a position to really challenge for some silverware, if we bring in a third top quality signing i'd be confident that we are much closer in quality to the other big 3 and have a real chance at the title. What do you think?

(It's always nice to dream before we find out what unheard of players we are really going to sign :p )

Transfer window hasn't even opened yet (sort of)

My opinion is that we will sign 3 players. 2 big name players at Striker and CM and a promising 21-23yo CB that is willing to wait for his chance.

That would give a big game 11 of :
    -----------Scz----------
    Sagna--Kosc--Mert--Gibbs
    ------Ramsey---Star CM----
    Walcott-----Wilshere-----Cazorla
    ------------Star Striker--------

and the week-end after a big game, if anyone needs a rest, or if there are injuries (most teams carry 2 players for each position with a third that can cover):
    -----------Fab----------
    Jenks--Verm--Young CB--Monreal
    ------Arteta---Ox----
    Gervinho-----Rosicky-----Podolski
    ------------Giroud--------

That is 22 players. Add a 3rd Goalkeeper (Mannone?), and there is opportunity to add one more player. As Ramsey seems to be able to play RB at a pinch, then really that player could be anything. Check homegrown - (Walcott, Jenks, Ramsey, Szcz, Ox, Wilshere, Gibbs, Mannone) so all good.

So look for a Star striker, Star Midfielder, a passable CB and possibly one other to come into the first team. Other than that, U21/U18 players.

How can you even begin to gauge whether it has been a successful transfer window yet? This is a thread that should be made on September 1st!

The post was more about seeing what quality of player people are expecting us to bring in and what it will take to please the fans as opposed to me thinking these are the signings we will actually make :)

It's like when halfway through a season a thread pops up asking if people would be happy if come the end of the season we end up in xyz position. It's trying to get a measure of what peoples expectations are.

If we could, I'd like to get rid of Gervino and bring in a more better winger.

There are much more betterer wingers that Gervinho, but to get the besterest we'd have to fork out a small fortune.

i would have thunk that you do have to pay out mostest if you want to bested players but you can not decide if this is one of your betterested transfer windows until it is closeded

With a reported £70m available and with numerous players being sold and taken off the wage bill, not buying any top quality/world class players would be a huge flop this transfer window. For this money we should get 2-3 top quality players, which I would regard a very good window. We can realistically attract many players to Arsenal, especially with Wenger at the helm. Really no excuses this time around.
