Sessegnon and Elmohamady are understood to be the players most at risk, with neither having covered themselves in glory on Monday.

Both are set to drop to the substitutes' bench at the weekend, with Bruce poised to recall skipper Lee Cattermole to stiffen the midfield and hand Connor Wickham his first start since an £8.1m summer move from Ipswich Town

Cattermole has sat out the last two matches, but his tough-tackling approach was missed at Carrow Road and his return would result in either David Vaughan or Craig Gardner switching to a wider role.

There is also likely to be a change in the back four, with Michael Turner ready to make his first appearance of the season in place of Titus Bramble

The whole article has many interesting (may not be true comments)

STEPHANE Sessegnon and Ahmed Elmohamady are set to be the fall guys for Sunderland's insipid display at Norwich City on Monday.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce is determined to make changes after admitting "six or seven players played well below their level" at Carrow Road.

His options are somewhat limited by the alternatives available within the squad, but a major shake-up of both the midfield and attack is anticipated when West Brom visit the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Sessegnon and Elmohamady are understood to be the players most at risk, with neither having covered themselves in glory on Monday.

Sessegnon has failed to live up to his sparkling pre-season form in the opening seven matches of the campaign, while Elmohamady did not look comfortable in a wide-midfield role at Norwich, having spent some of the earlier part of the season at full-back.

Both are set to drop to the substitutes' bench at the weekend, with Bruce poised to recall skipper Lee Cattermole to stiffen the midfield and hand Connor Wickham his first start since an £8.1m summer move from Ipswich Town.

Cattermole has sat out the last two matches, but his tough-tackling approach was missed at Carrow Road and his return would result in either David Vaughan or Craig Gardner switching to a wider role.

Bruce has adopted a patient approach with Wickham thus far, but the lack of a cutting edge three days ago is set to result in the teenager partnering Nicklas Bendtner in a remodelled 4-4-2 formation. There is also likely to be a change in the back four, with Michael Turner ready to make his first appearance of the season in place of Titus Bramble, who was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and possession of a Class A drug on Tuesday evening.

Sunderland officials issued a brief statement confirming they were "looking into the situation" regarding Bramble yesterday, and Bruce is likely to be quizzed about the defender's position when he attends his scheduled pre-match press conference tomorrow morning.

The Sunderland manager's own position was called into question by a number of supporters in the wake of Monday's defeat, but Bruce remains confident he retains the support of both chairman Niall Quinn and owner Ellis Short, both of whom were at Carrow Road.

His relationship with Asamoah Gyan appears rocky though, with the striker questioning Bruce's account of his loan move to UAE side Al-Ain yesterday. In the wake of Gyan's £6m temporary switch, Bruce claimed the Ghanaian and his representatives effectively presented the loan arrangement as a fait accompli, a version of events that is disputed by the forward.

"Everybody who matters at the club gave his consent to the move because they were happy with the offer," said Gyan, who is still to score for his new temporary employers.

"I heard Bruce grant interviews after I left which has baffled me. I did not leave on my own accord. Sunderland agreed before the deal was reached.

"I have no problems with the coach and I have never had a problem with the coach. There is no problem between us, although we are yet to speak since I moved. I believe the move was good for the club, that is why they allowed me to go."

    Turner in...Bramble out....ok
Catts in.....maybe for Franky....not sure about this...
Sess out....hhmmm if Wickham is to start, wouldn't Sess have played on either wing?

Maybe some bold decisions by Bruce, and about time to, just hope they work.

Why doesn't Bruce try playing Sessegnon in his proper position for once.

I swear if he was our manager he'd drive me ****ing nuts.

Not sure over all - I am a big fan of Catts so wouldn't object to him being back in the side

Elmohammady put the most dangerous cross of the entire match over on Monday - Wickham was just up too early otherwise would've bagged himself a goal!

Turner in for Bramble would be a definite yes for me

We need to play 4-4-2 NO MATTER WHAT at the weekend - 2 up front would be a requirement for me

    Mig

    O'Shea - Turner - Brown - Ricco

    Larsson - Catts - Vaughan* - Gardner*

    Wickham - Bendtner

Vaughan and Gardner can switch around or we can play Sessegnon left wing and not play Cattermole with Vaughan and Gardner in the centre!! Bloody hell I don't know!! Guess it'll be a nice surpriise on Saturday!! Or not a nuice surprise

    ...................mig...................
    oshea....turner....brown.....rico...
    larsson...catts....gardner...vaughan..
    ...........bendtner...wickham...............

    Id go

    .....................Westwood.....................
    elmo........turner.....brown......oshea....
    larsson....gardner...vaughan....rico.....

    I like this team

    Elmo, Oshea, Brown, Ricco

    Sess, Vaughan, Gardner, Larsson

    Bendy and Wickham

    but 4-1-3-2 might work,

with Sess out, and Catts and turner in.

    Oshea, Turner, Brown, Ricco

    Catts

    Elmo, Vaughan, Larsson

    Bendy and Wickham

I wouldnt drop Elmo though, as we need at least one natural winger on the pitch

I hope Sessegnon has knuckled down in training this week, I was so dissapointed with him at Norwich. He wasn't helped by his manager though. He needs to be getting the ball facing goal with two strikers ahead of him, that's when we'll see how good he is.

Dropping Sessegnon would be a mistake, Gardner was worse than him and he didnt even get a mention and at least Elmo gives us width/pace and sometimes the odd good cross, which Whickham should have scored by the way, young lad or not he should have buried it, no excuse.

I hope he doesn persist with Larsson on the left though, it ruins our width otherwise it will be non-penetrating crap through the middle, which is easy to defend.

Eh - Receiving the ball facing goal - that's an entirely new concept - of which I know nothing
TWO strikers aheadn of him you say - TWO - Now I know you're making things up for the sake of it

I really want to see Sessegnon in his preferred midfield role...However, Turner being back in the side fills me with fear because I feel that he looked like a spent force in his last outing which made me think that he would never be the same again....I truly hope he has a blinder and shoves my theories right back down my throat mind...

    the old catch 22

turner needs games to get match fit and sharp, but to do that we have to take the risk that he will make mistakes and be a bit slow for 3-5 games. what to do?

The worry I have about Turner is he's not sharp at the best of times nevermind just coming back, Long and Odemwingie running at Turner is scary to think about. Might change my back 4 to

    .....elmo...oshea...brown...rico..

I read in a book once of a team that played 4 defenders in defence, 4 midfielders in midfield and 2 Strikers up front. The team were called the 4-4-2 after the magazine, I think Sly Stallone was the goalkeeper or something.

Thankfully we don't have to put up with that crazy ****!

If we start with Gardner, Larsson, Vaughan and Catts, it will be the slowest midfield ever.

Ken, thats a helluva bold statement for a Sunderland fan. You and I must have seen 10 or 12 worse midfields than that mate, at the very least. Lol

Do not bring cattermole back, as he should have played at Norwich, it was his type of game, but drop Sessegnon you kidding!, get him back to right midfield where he should have played all the time.Keep Vaughn and Larsson in with Ricko on the left and definetly start Connor and Bentdner up front. Cattermole stops play moving forward and clatters in too much, but we better get at WBA from the start and get to the ball quicker. Or we could go 3-5-2 Bramble-Brown-O'Shea- Ricko-Vaughn-Larrson-Sess-Elmo (if he can get some decent crosses to Whickham) Whickham-Bendntner. Larsson should take all the free kicks and corners in the future as well.

I would be very surprised to see Bramble in the squad this week considering the circumstances...
