Is there any truth in these big money signings. We have been linked with Ki for 6m, and Defoe for 9m, and now Dawson for 5.5m, and many others throughout the transfer window. So far we have spent: Park 2.5m, Diakite 3m, and Hoilett (to be decided but probably around 2.5m), Green, Johnson, Bosingwa, Nelson all free and Fabio on loan. That's a total of 8m on seven players and one loan player. It remains to be seen if we are willing to pay 5m or more for any one player.
Good article....... i would spend £5m on a player if he is young abit like this french kid Zuma at 17 years old you know you will have a good sell on fee and a sell 0n clause. but it has been said many a times english players coz double the amount and are over priced. Look at Michu of Swansea got him for £2.5m compare that to say jordan henderson £20+m its crazy.
Zamora, SWP, Cisse and Ferdinand all cost between £4-6,5 mill. each. Nothing to suggest that we won't splash bigger fees than that. Still a lot left of this seasons transfer budget and it's common knowledge that money is a plenty at HQ these days.
Why is anybody disputing paying 5mil for a centre back after Saturdays performance. A PL centre back will not cost less than 5mil, and that's what we need!
The relatively low fees certainly cushion the high wages but I do wonder how many times we'll hear the words "big spending QPR" this season?
I'm begging to think that there are guys on hear who would complain if a gorgeous woman asked if she could pay them a million quid to give them A blow job.
Not at all. All the guys that cost 5mil now would've cost a fraction of that when they were first given the chance. You don't need to splash insane amounts of cash to get good players. You just need a good scouting system (and in time a good youth academy). Personally, I'd hate forking out that amount of money for a defender. The big bucks should be saved for the talent up the pitch.
Is the fact we're discussing spending £5million on a player not the least bit ridiculous? £20 million i can understand, but £5m? It's a nothing fee in the premiership these days, clubs pay that sometimes in the championship!! Let's just just call the whole thing off and stick with connolly.........
I guess this is my answer if it happens: Michael Dawson: Tottenham accept QPR's £7.5m bid By Ben Smith BBC Sport Queens Park Rangers have agreed an initial fee of £7.5m for Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson. The England international has yet to undergo a medical but has agreed to the move in principal, after being told he would be third-choice centre back at Spurs this season. The proposed deal could eventually be worth up to £10m. Nottingham Forest will be due 10% of the fee from a sell-on clause inserted when they sold Dawson to Spurs in 2005. Rangers manager Mark Hughes moved to try to sign Dawson after his side were hammered 5-0 by Swansea at Loftus Road on the opening day of the season. The defender, who has won four caps for England, was not a regular under former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp last season but is fit again after rupturing a ligament in his right ankle in March. Sebastien Bassong, Dawson's former Tottenham team-mate, left Spurs earlier on Tuesday after agreeing a three-year deal with Norwich City.
Oddball's right. This has all the hallmarks of last season's last minute panic buys and we all know where that led us. When I hear big numbers like this being bandied about I get very nervous indeed.
Don't worry about it. Mittal has earnt more than Dawsons fee in interest in the time that this thread started. It's the equivalent to us buying a cup of tea to Mittal.
