Being a non nationalist and a person of the earth I don't want to get into the political and racial machinations but could Scotland succeed?

It appears to me that the SNP are relying heavily on Oil Revenue (I still don't know who owns the oil but since it is located in the UK sector of the North Sea I'd imagine it belongs to the UK).

Recent discoveries have prolonged the life of Exploration and Production and another 40 years is commonly quoted.

However, the SNP will have to come up with some pretty persuasive solutions that will be needed to be thought and planned now before the oil revenues runs out.

We can't all become as backward as Edinburgh and rely on a twee kilted romantic and nostalgic ode to shortbread and bagpipes, haggi and tartan rugs. Hoots min.

We need cities like Aberdeen, Inverness, Glasgow and Dundee to forge ahead and keep progressing and being innovative.

Scotland has more than enough natural resources, exports and tourism attractions to produce a sustainable economy.

The only stumbling block is that its run by arseholes. Look at Aberdeen for example, it should be like Dubai by now but they still wear denim and live in slums.

....Scotland's other failing is that it's infiltrated by gormless scumbags such as Mind The Step.

I tend to agree with you monaco.

Scotchland has been propped up by Westminster for years.

I certainly would not trust the anti-English racism of Salmond representing this country. He is a crook.

I perfers ER's he has put some effort into his thread and the other is just a copy and paste job!

I believe politicly Scotland want very different things to the rest of the UK, so independance would help Scotland achive that although I don't think we have the right people just now the folk in the Scottish parliament right now are to a man as thick as pig ****.

We've no chance of standing on our own two feet when it's populated by spineless cowards like ER.

I think the first thing we should do when independent is repatriate all the mopey English ****s back to England (apart from my girlfriend - she's not mopey. Deserate maybe, but not mopey).

First of all pig **** is runny, not thick.

Secondly, Scotland is doing better than the rest of the UK because of the Scottish Parliament, not in spite of it.

No. Cretin. The Central Belt might be.

With twats like you in charge Scotchland would be up **** creek.

Notice how slimebag Salmond is introducing another option. Hedging his bets the sanctimonious prick.

Nonsense. The whole "propped up by Westminster argument is bollox. Scotland gets more money from Westminster that any other region, but it also contributes more than any other region except Greater London, mainly due to the alcohol duty on whisky production. And as for the oil, let's not go there!

There will be an independence referendum, which IMO will be defeated, but the main argument from the non-nationlists will be based on fear.

The main party in Scotland in terms of members (the labour party) will oppose independence due to common policy dictated from London, however independence is the best thing that could happen to the Scottish labour Party as they could then distance themselves from the New Labour Mantra and return to being a people#s party again.

Why should Scotland be anymore independent than say Newcastle?

The whole of the UK talk the same, eat the same, socialize the same and watch the same **** on tv

Scotlands ills are not the sole responsibility of the rest of the UK

Who decides where to draw the border?

The break up of India should be examined for possible problems

Oh and Frank, get it up ye

Based on parliamentary seats in Westminster, if Scotland became fully independant the rest of the UK would have a Tory government for evermore.

Thanks a ****ing lot ya ****s<grr>

Not true. When we got the Parliament everyone thought we would be under Labour forever.

But people get sick of whoever's in power eventually and want a change. Look back to 1997.
