Baaaaaaaaaaargains! http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/spieler/vertragsende/basics.html Not sure how accurate this is but there are a couple here who make me think twice. Foster is incorrect I think - was loaned so should have the loan symbol otherwise I think he'd be a really useful second choice goalkeeper. Hoilett and Bosingwa would add good squad depth imo. Also, would a cheeky bid for Berbatov be worth it? His game was never based on pace so that's not a concern. He's been pants this season but is that down to ability or lack of use by Fergie? Meh. Interesting list anyway.
Drogba as a short term fix? Wages will be a stumbling block, but at least signing him for free would help pay off some of the high wages.
Always rated Drogba and is still a total beast. For me he was the player of the tournament and was chief reason why they won the cup. Just imagine what his strength could bring us up front. Stick Pod on the left and RVP on the right and see him knock the ball into these guys. It would be Drogbatastic!
Lol, that's worth at least 3 points! But tio be fair, we've had a good record against Chelsea of late....
This is an interesting thread, Apparently Fabianski and Mannone want to leave Arsenal, so Gordon as a reserve? Also I would be v happy to sign Berbatov especially if RVP leaves, also rodallega yes please.
Hoillett is world class. Probably better than Walcott, and I rate Walcott fairly highly. Berbatov worth a punt too, but I think his main concern is first team football.
I was thinking the same thing. Was he being sarcastic? World class in the Prem are RVP, Rooney, Aguero, Yaya etc.
In my opinion he has that little something other players don't. Just an opinion though, we'll see what he does in the next 5 years. It really depends who he joins though. I suppose by world class I mean potentially, based on what I've seen. 7 goals and 7 assists for a relegated Blackburn is pretty good too. Could easily double those figures in a CL team.
Berbatov wants first-team football, as long as van Persie stays he won't be getting it here. But Wenger has been an admirer of Berba for a long time, so who knows. Hoilett is a decent prospect, but I think we would have to pay some compensation. Drogba as a short-term fix would be incredible. I think that all he wants is a two-year contract, maybe something is possible. Especially if Chelsea doesn't give him the two years he wants. Only problem with him is that the physical side to his game will (probably) deteriorate a lot in the next two years due to his age.
7 goals, 5 assists, isn't it? Anyway stats don't mean that much and you certainly can't say that he could easily double those in a CL team. Would you say the same about Yakubu? I know everyone has their own definition of World Class but for me you have to be in the top 2 or 3 in the World for your position and currently he's not even in the top 3 left wingers in the Premiership. Talented but a long way off World Class.
Partly agree with Yid. He's nowhere near world class but he's very useful and managed great performances in a side bereft of confidence/tactics. Perhaps with better players around him he'd flourish. It would be a gamble but if there's no signing on fee it'd be one I think would be worth it. He'd add to that dreaded phrase floating round here "SQUAD DEPTH"!
Arsegun was quoting his stats for all competitions. Actually this is pretty good for a team of cloggers like Blackburn. I'm sure he could improve on those figures if he came to Arsenal...
Yes, what I mean is I've seen him score goals and beat players with pace, technique and skill, in ways that only a world class player would be capable off (in my opinion). There was/is no chance of him gaining a world class reputation at Blackburn. The player in the premier league he reminds me most of is Ashley Young. He has all the potential to be better than Young, and I don't think he would require much "development time" to get there based on his performances this season. It's 7 goals and 7 assists in all competitions. This would have undoubtedly been higher in a team like Arsenal, so we're already talking Walcott's level.
Fair enough, I see where you're coming from. I agree he'd be a smart signing, especially since you only have to pay compenation which is unlikely to be more than £5mill, I'd have thought. We like him on the Spurs board too. I'd be surprised if he topped this season's stats at a bigger side next season though and very surprised if he doubled them.
Hoilett seems to have the ability ... in patches, can he do it throughout the game and in most games too ? Remains to be seen. I would say no to him because I am fed up of potentially good players, however, he is still developing and if he comes good - definitely world class. Worth a punt ? Possibly.
would we have to pay compensation? i thought that was only for players under 21 years old. and he is 21. would be good anyways. compensation is usually only a couple hundred grand, which is peanuts for football clubs. good player. could also learn from walcott (goalscoring) to improve his game. might fill up the wings a bit though (walcott, gervinho, podolski, miyaichi, chamberlain, arshavin?)
