It also makes them ****ing useless as soon as they start to lose it (see Mr Owen as a good example). As far as a game like yesterdays it just goes to show how useless pace is against teams that defend so deep. Had we got an early goal then I'm sure Sterling would have got a lot more joy but we didn't so he was toothless (not his fault). As I said before Arsenal have frequently struggled against Stoke despite having plenty of pace.
My biggest worry is the lack of goal scoring BUT the dominance of games and chances created. That **** seems to cling to us and we need to break that if we want to be back challenging. I don't think relegation is a worry but breaking the top 10 might be if we stay like this.
As with last year mate we can all see we are "playing better than results suggest" but how long does it go on before we start to say "oh **** something's not right here". How long before BR has to start putting results before style? I would imagine we had 600 odd passes again yesterday with nothing to show for it.
Indeed. Cutting edge to the dominance or else we will stay right where we are. We also have the worst stats in the league for percentages of our shots on target. Seriously need to spend the full 2 hour sessions finishing, for everyone, even the coaches ffs! lol.
We've been saying that for what seems like a very long time now. BR needs to seriously think about signing me in Jan
Its hardly a one off when we've only won one in 7 though and while I totally agree about Stokes style, unfortunately they won't be the only team who come to Anfield this season and play with 10 behind the ball. If only we could play Norwich every week.
guys..... this is ALL about urgency. sure get a forward but if you've guys like gerrard that the ball breaks down around cos he's on his heels or things like oh sterling's initial touch being quite heavy really... well we need to sharpen up whats o nthe pitch in the system it is in.... thats in rodgers control to have at it....
Also for me not a one-off as this has been a problem for what seems like over 2 years. You also forgot to add that Barca have about3-4 guys who can put the ball in the net at will, Messi does it just for fun.
But that would suggest we aren't creating chances. We are, we just can't finish. A good example would be Johnsons woeful effort (incidentally from a lovely Gerrard pass) and Suarez blazing over, Gerrard firing wide twice, Sterling and Suarez both shooting from ridiculous angles etc etc
Just as Suarez should be able to do. He's skillful enough. He's just not focused enough on that being his/the teams main objective.
The one where Suarez gets it from half-field runs at them, twists turns, gets free inside the box, must be maybe a yard off the 6 yard box and DOESN"T EVEN HIT THE ****ING FRAME drove me nuts and just about sums us up in front of goal. Craft, guile, build-up, working hard to create but just no damn end product. Sterling with the back post gaping goes near post was another.
Exactly. Its the most basic thing in the world to go across the keeper in those positions when the keepers sat back on his line. So we have to ask why in gods name can't we find a forward who at least knows the basics of goalscoring?
