What series do you think offers a better introduction to F1 for aspiring drivers, or is it beneficial to compete in both, such as Heikki Kovalainen, Kamui Kobayashi etc. I have noticed that the renault graduates tend to appear in F1 at a much younger age. Anyway, heres some notable graduates from both series WSR Fernando Alonso Robert Kubica Sebastian Vettel Jaime Alguersuari GP2 Lewis Hamilton Nico Rosberg Timo Glock Nico Hulkenberg Checo Perez Whats your opinions on these series?
Personally, I've only just started following WSBR a few weeks ago because Ricciardo is in it. I think that the more talented drivers come through there and their performances really show through and gives good opportunites to young drivers such as Vettel, Alguersuari and Kubica.
Alonso also raced in F3000 (old GP2) Thats when I first knew about him. WSBR to me seems to be on the same level as Formula BMW, F3, GP3 in the Racing Pyramid
the thing I don't get about the lower series is, F1 is the highest and millions watch it from several countries so sponsors get a lot of coverage when they sponsor an F1 team. But GP2, F2, F3 euroseries, british F3, Formula renault, world series by renault etc. I never see them on TV and surely even if you do know where to watch them you will be more drawn to F1 so the lower series can't get much coverage, so how do they get any sponsors?? Or do they get money from another source?
They get coverage on Eurosport for GP2, and WSBR is on either Eurosport or ESPN? They just don't have the big names for any terrestrial channels to want to have anything to do with them. A shame for motorsports fans who haven't got sky/cable but there is only so much you can squeeze onto 5 channels. I can think of a lot of stuff (see ****) that should be cancelled to make way for more motorsport but thats by the by........
