I've not seen any outstanding players for England. At a push I'd say Trippier has been the best and the most consistent. Maguire, Rose, Loftus-Cheek, have been awful. Pickford not really been tested much but when he has been he looks distinctly average - he's too short for a keeper and doesn't look fit.

Even as a team we've been decent but no more than that. Not being negative but i'm not sure where all the positivity is coming from, other than just being positive because of supporting the nation. Even when we duffed up Panama, was we really good or was Panama just god awful.

None of our star players have looked like star quality so far.

And you let him go.

We let him go because he was injury prone and wasn't good enough. The fact that rumours are saying he'll be joining Fenebache shows his true skill level. Another over hyped English player.

It's not like we didn't give him LOADS of chances. We even farmed him out for a season long loan at Bournemouth but he was just decent and nothing more there.

With the amount of money the PL generates and at the disposal of the FA, we should be churning out better players. We must have so much more money than a lot of other European countries, yet haven't produced a single player that is skillful or creative in midfield. It's like they are all the same.

We need to start making changes at grass roots level and look for the future, like what Germany did back in early 2000 when their football was going nowhere. The people in charge are too short sighted.

It's shocking that our players haven't progressed technically when this deficiency was identified years ago. The fact that Wilshere is the only one that offers something different is poor in terms of talent coming through. Do the academies just focus on pace and power and not technical skillful play?

How do they expect England to win the World Cup if we look petrified on the ball when facing the worlds top sides. Even against a second string Belgium side, the players were inadequate at keeping the ball.

As you said, Henderson is like the rest, a basic hard working English midfielder. He looks good at Liverpool because of the quality foreign players surrounding him and Klopp maximising him. It'll be interesting to see what happens when Keita and Fabinho move into your midfield and how it impacts him.

in short yes they do.

Lets just look at the top young english talents.... CURRENTLY..

what do they have in common? Pace, power, athletic ability

Rashford. Pace power. decent striker technique but would never consider as a guy to look up and pick a pass.
Loftus Cheek - just a battering ram player.
TAA - some pace. stuck right back as physically considered not strong enough for midifeld. half decent pass on him
Chalobah - another powerhouse
chilwell another pace merchant playing lb
Gomez - our own joe. fast and powerful. zero left foot
Alli - again never creative. all power and running really.
sterling - all pace. no finish. he's not really a passer either.

theres no debryune there, no hazard par se. certinly no silva or dare i say it scholes.

The academys filter i think but i also think first team managers put a huge filter on as well.

Keeping the ball and playing intelligent passes forward are not valued in england. Playing fast end to end is. Hence the amount of "athletes" i nthe game.

Contrast a game in spain to a game in england.

maybe 5 real chances each created but much more possession and probing and two decent defences making it hard.

England 20 chances each, end to end lots of errors.

We have had this discussion on here before.

It starts at a young level and they are still being taught lump it to the big man.

It never ceases to amaze me how many lads we see at u16 and u18 level who are head an shoulders over the boys pure on physical development but are absolutely terirble players due to bad habits learned.

I m always reminded of David Amoo. That kid could run all day. head down pelt down the right win and just dominated under age. you could tell he learned nothing. didn't need to at under age level.

he is now 27... getting on actually and has spent his entire career as a journey man. I wonder if he'd going with athletics could he have had a better career <laugh>

Too much bullshit propaganda through media is destroying the national team, but they don't care about the national team as long as the PL is generating bucket loads of cash. Not one pundit has the balls to tell the truth, it's so bloody annoying.

Should get Danny dyer or piers Morgan.

They will speak their mind lol.

A lot of them are probably told to toe the line in fairness

media are only interested in copy and hits.

There's no money in telling people where its gone wrong even after a horrible world cup (which this should not be)

there's money in the blame game and in the hype game.

not sure thats fully true anymore as there is certainly technical skills on show in the England age group teams in particular imo in the U17 WC winning team.
My worry is will they get game time in the PL or will they have to request moves to Bundeslegia for example to get the games.

We haven't had to get out of second gear yet, the telling matches are coming up. Yesterday's team did okay and who knows, they may have been sent out to do just what they did - have a good go but try not to win <laugh>

They need to be encouraged to move abroad, but English people are petrified of leaving England. It's this whole english-centric view which is so damaging to our country and gets in the way of growth.

We'll see if these "gears" exist when they play a good team in Columbia next. I'm really not sure at the moment and the Belgium game didn't help to clarify anything either.

you are right there. This world cup only starts now. We just played two **** sides then put out b team. None of that is a test so irrespective of what has gone on so far england can't be said to have fallen short nor can it be said they are looking good.

Columbia looked a decent outfit to me. James made them play a lot better in match 2 but there is nothing there to fear for me.

Same for swiss and sweden. In many ways thats familiar territory and while the swiss are the better side england should at least match them for pens.

Even costa is more familiar territory for england in terms of a bruiser up top.

it all boils down for me to walker, stones, maguire.

Southgate will come out of this good either way.

He has the excuse the media will give him of building for the future.

We learnt nothing from Belgium game and will start cold again Tuesday when it matters.
