Probably against all sane advice I have accepted an offer I can't refuse / understand to spend some 'quality time' overseeing the construction of World Cup stadia & infrastructure in Qatar. This will sadly preclude me making many away games next season although I'm hoping most games will be on some tv channel or another. My other main concern is that finding decent claret & cheese might be tricky. If there are any other Doha based hoops with a stock of Gevrey-Chambertin going spare please do get in touch. Off to Boots now for some factor 50+ suncream. Good luck to you lads going to HQ next season. I should be able to make some games around Christmas Up the R's!
Wubba, you read too much Spike Milligan. I wouldn't accept the contact yet, there's many slip twixt cup and lip!!!
Good luck mate. That should pay the bills for a week or two!! See if you can persuade them that good pubs are essential footballing infrastructure.
Thanks RTID but they might need more than a couple of pubs. When i went out for a recce a week or so ago it was 122° on a road construction project i visited. Thats a long way from sunny Sheffield. I think I'll also need a hat
I think spectators are going to die, let alone the players!! Surely the craziest decision of all footballing history. Be careful out there mate.
I think its all gong to be a waste of time for you, maybe they will pay you loads for bringing it down again without it ever being used? At least youll be loaded.
Sorry to burst your bubble Wubba, but Qatar are 10/1 to host the 2022 World Cup with USA at 5/2 favourites. Qatar are also 8/11 not to host the 2022 World Cup.
Loads of Indians and Sri Lankans will die out there, they trap them and use them as forced labour. 44 deaths in 3 months. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/sep/27/qatar-failing-forced-labour-un
Good luck Wubs. The thing may be a farce but that's at the very top level and so why shouldn't one of the good guys do alright out of it. Make sure they pay on time!
Good luck mate, although I was looking forward to catching up on a few Northern away trips this year!
I thought its relevant especially if his job is to oversee the slave labour and there's a very good chance people could die on his watch and he could be held responsible. There's a reason why the money is stupid, people don't want to do it. Read up on it WBA , you don't want to be held accountable for the awful working conditions and accidents/deaths.
Good luck wubs.....think you might need one of those foreign legion hats with the tent at the back to protect the neck....... We'll catch up on here every saturday/sunday/monday or when ever the sky prem league decide to play our games....keep safe.....
No its a FIFO 8week on 2 week off arrangement. The wife will never leave Sheffield and my son starts his A levels in September. It will be theraputic not doing the school run for a bit. Its renewable annually so can always opt out if I get bored.
Whilst I appreciate the situation i am going there to manage delivery of stadia and not undertake a human rights watch programme. That said I am going to be employed by a reputable US company who I am sure strive to ensure safety for all as a minimum criteria.
or perhaps one of these pith helmets - that could be you in the middle Wubba, with a white one as the boss! I worked in Saudi Arabia Sept - Dec 1975 and the heat was initially quite a shock to my system. At the aerodrome in Amman, Jordan, Col. T. E. Lawrence ("Lawrence of Arabia", 2nd from left) and Sir Herbert Samuel (centre) wearing a pith helmet, April 1921 please log in to view this image
Good luck Wubba. We'll post up cheese pictures every-so-often just to remind you of what you are missing. If Stan and I manage to sneak some cheese and port into Loftus Road for a half time picnic we will raise a toast to you.
