World Cup Predictions League 2014 Sponsored by the Weltenburger Klosterbrauerei ! I have decided to do a World Cup predictions league, which combines elements from the WPL and from the FA Cup predictions league. The points system is as follows. For the group stages scoring is the same as for the WPL, with one slight change. 15 points for a correct scoreline e.g. you tip 2-1 and it is 2-1. 3 points for a correct result e.g. 3-0 and you tip 2-0. 5 additional bonus points if the score difference is correct e.g. 2-1 against 1-0. 4 points for a correctly predicted draw (wrong scoreline) e.g. 1-1 against 2-2. In the WPL there is a 10 point bonus if you are the only one to correctly tip a particular scoreline e.g. 4-1. This rule will only apply if 20 or more people are tipping. Any points gained on England matches are doubled. For the last 16 phase. 10 points for each winner tipped (regardless of scoreline). For the last 8 phase. 25 points for each winner tipped (regardless of scoreline) For the Semi Finals. 50 points for each winner tipped. (regardless of scoreline) For the 3rd and 4th place final. This reverts to WPL scoring and is based on the scoreline after 90+ minutes ie. normal time - here it is possible to tip a draw if you think extra time will be necessary (What happens in extra time is irrelevant to this league). The points here are: 60 points for a correct scoreline e.g. 2-2 against 2-2 30 points for a correct score difference e.g. 2-1 against 1-0 15 points for a correct result e.g. 1-0 against 3-0. 20 points for a correct draw e.g. 1-1 against 2-2 For the final. Similar to the 3rd and 4th place final with the following points scale. 100 points for a correct scoreline (after 90 mins.) 50 points for a correct score difference (1-0 against 2-1 etc.) 25 points for a correct result 1-0 against 2-0. 30 points for a correctly predicted draw ie. 1-1 against 0-0 after normal time. I will update scores after every round - the end of the first round being when every team has played one match. Please remember that the time between rounds is not as long as we have become used to with the WPL. In fact round 2 begins before round 1 has ended. Feel free to tip round by round if you like - or part of one round and part of another if necessary. You can also tip all group matches in one post if you like. As for the WPL. repetition of the same scoreline e.g. 1-1 is only allowed up to a maximum of 5 times (WPL is 4) per round. Fixtures will appear on this thread in due course.
