First I've heard of this. The refs have a spray and when there is a free kick they pace out 10 yards then spray a line on the pitch which the wall cannot pass, then after a short while the line disappears....interesting.
I heard lads in my office talking about it yesterday but was too busy to ask so couldn't really hear much about it. Not a bad idea but i can imagine it'll be abused somehow as every "Rule" is abused! And why triall something like this at a WC or is it something FIFA have been doing in other countries but kept from us?
I remember Lorik Cana using his studs to scratch a line in the turf after the ref paced out the 10 yards. The groundsmen would have gone mental if that had caught on. This spray is a better idea, but still relies on the ref getting the distance right in the first place.
I actually don't think it will - in the same way that a tugged shirt in the box should be a penalty - if you do it 2 or 3 times in the same game the players will soon stop doing it. Although they don't appear to have the bottle to give penalties for shirt tugging (however a striker is always penalised for it!)
That spray has been around a bit. When there's lots to keep your eye on, it's pretty handy for encroachment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1HCVxfKEPk Think it's less foamy than it used to be.
Does anyone remember crazy foam? It was like this but in a clown's face tube, perhaps FIFA should have it coming out of Sepp Blatter faced cans since he is the biggest clown associated with football at the moment.
Can you imagine if it was squirty cream though... Rooney would immediately draw a line either side of his feet and tell the lads in the wall "That's my bit".
