Finally its good to hear that the management team are working on strengthening the spine of the team and have identified targets from home and abroad. From this piece in TWTD Hutchings talks a great deal of sense and I just hope and pray that they can deliver the 6 quality players we so desperately need. I know we are nowhere near making signings yet but at least this article offers some room for much needed optimism. http://www.twtd.co.uk/news.php?storyid=20786&title=hutchings:_town_looking_to_strengthen_spine
Didn't Chris use to be Big Sam's assistant at Bolton? Bit of a come down! I don't mean Ipswich, I mean PJ!
They said that 3 or 4 weeks back. Jewell said that we wanted at least 6 players. A keeper, central defenders, a central midfielder, a winger, a striker and also ideally a utility player who can cover the full back areas. Im sure we have already discussed it on here. The question is not what we need but who we get!
We shall know by Wednesday if we are successful in our bid to sign Joel Ward, this could well define our transfer business in this important window.
All piss and wind. Hutchings has just said what we've been crying out for. We need at least 4 decent signings.... Goalkeeper Central Defender Central Midfielder Striker Failure to fill any one of these positions will see us struggle. It's not ****ing rocket science. If lots of us Town fans can see this but don't work in football, how the **** can our well paid coaches and manager not? These ****heads are treading a fine line, let alone our absconding dildo of a CEO Mr Guam. Honestly, I'm realistic in regard to our expectations but the sheer incompetence shown at ITFC over the last few years is staggering. On a lighter note, due to financial fair play rules and general cost cutting, Bluey & Crayzee are now glue
If we're in for Alan Judge that's very positive. If we only sign three players like him this summer then that will be progress I don't agree that we will struggle without signing someone to any particular position and the squad would actually benefit IMO from some consistency and gradual changes. I don't think we have a hope in hell this season of promotion so I'd like to see some long term thinking to our transfers this summer.
Unlike Lancs, I dont think that this season will see the promotion race totally written off (not that Im expecting it) but I do agree with him that we should build a team that we can build a long term future around rather than go for short term success but without any long term substance to it.
Hamps, we've got two centre-backs ffs. One is a raw talent and the other is Delaney. You don't think we need to target centre backs, goalkeeper, striker? We need to target exactly these positions!
Blue Monkey - i think calling Delaney a centre back is being a bit kind to the useless lump of ****. I would have more faith if we had a blind amputee playing there instead of him.
If we sign a great centre back and forward then Lee Barrett can do a job for us. If we sign only a great goalkeeper this summer then that will do for me as well. It's not as simple as needing to fill those positions and for me there isn't any position on the pitch where we don't need to strengthen. Actually I think Delaney gets an unfair press. We're thin on the ground at centre back but if we signed a Rhodes or Lambert this summer then I'd happily see Delaney and Smith pair up at the back next season.
I agree about Delaney. He's a confidence player, which is not normally associated with centre-backs. We could do a lot worse but we need to balance it up at the back. Also we could do with a more reliable, creative outlet from the back playing forward, although Hyam gives us that.
