Congrats to Reading for securing their promotion and especially to Legs and Gorkks........who would have thought it a few months ago?! So, with the prospects of having some money pumped into the club (another dodgy Russian), perhaps they may construct a team that can survive in the Premier League........but........ They also need to learn from our mistakes. I don't doubt for one minute that if we had our current team at the beginning of the summer training then we would be in a much better position than we are now........but I can't help but wonder what position we would be in if we had kept the squad we got promoted with (inc. Routledge). Everyone feels that it was a mistake to sell Gorkks......solid, strong and can nick a goal. I believe that the lads; Barton, SWP, Cisse, Zamora, Ferdinand, Onohua etc are all very capable but we tried to change too much too soon.....almost panic buying.....bit like when the Mrs goes shopping in the sales, buying loads of stuff, then realising that when she gets home that some of it just isn't right Of course, getting rid of Warnock is another mystery......everyone entitled to an opinion, I am on the fence for this one. Reading obviously have a strong team........doubt it's good enough to go above mid-table, but would hope that McDermott keeps as many players as he can. Now all that's left to do is return back to work (on Paternity leave) and face the music - work at a secondary school in Berkshire and am going to get ripped to pieces by all the kids who follow the Fake Hoops
Advice: 1. If you are going to change manager do it now not in August or January 2. If your board is going to invest in the playing staff make the money available now not in August or January 3. Build on your existing squad rather than trying to start from scratch 4. If you are looking for new strikers avoid any that have previously been recruited by Neil Warnock 5. Playing defensively away from home in the PL does not work
As much as we take the mickey out of the fake hoops, I'm happy for them winning promotion, especially with the ex-RRRs you mention and given their position back in November (16th was it?) - impressive stuff. As you say, they need to learn from our mistakes: too much change too quickly is bad for the team. They need to follow the Norwich/Swansea model... a few extra signings to augment the squad but keep the core the same. If they do that then they stand an excellent chance of staying up. McDermott's an excellent manager and has more than enough about him to keep Reading up next year... good luck to them and hopefully we'll meet them in the Prem if not next year then the year after!
There's no other poster on here who gets it so spot on (nice and concisely too!) all of the time. Keep it up AAAGH
Newbury, that is going to be harsh facing the junior false hoop fans. Chin high and wait. He who laughs last etc.
Getb a grip boys ffs You happy the fakes have nicked our chants?, and now apparently London Calling no class no history (Except for biscuits) which they have now seemingly discarded through embarrassment, F**k Reading let's hope there team gets wiprd out with the plague
