On an earlier thread of mine about Jackie Milburn, one of the questions was, Was he realy that good, well the strange thing is Alan Shearer didnt beat his record after all. thats beside the point, found a little tit bit to get you started, enjoy, I did, also put it into favourites for future arguements/debates etc. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/archive/Jackie-Milburn-article1165.html
Was he really that good ? ---Yes he was ,to score that amount of goals in that time and If I am asked who was better Shearer or Milburn, I would not answers to that questions even that I have never seen Milburn played butt his record speaks for himself and the football has change from that time,it was different style of play, Milburn and Shearer will live forever in Newcastle history. One things come to my mind 11 MAY 2006 Shearer testimonial and JACKIE MILBURN BIRTHDAY same day.
My old man (no songs please he's 76 years young) said that Jackie was faster than Shearer, both had an eye for goal, but Shearer had by far the better header of the ball. Suppose Shearer didn't have to jump up and nut a cows arse, as in the way the balls where made in them days though all in all my old man said Shearer, but only just by the way, liked the bit where the reporter said that we were lucky, and the Manchester bias was there even in the 50's "Biggest Riddle There It is, the biggest Wembley riddle of all time. You cannot anticipate, cannot legislate for, LUCK. Not Newcastle's luck. So on a level judgment of Skill, the clear choice beyond doubt is Manchester City. I hope they do it, because there will be a clear example to every club that skill and craft and the moral courage of sticking to a system is the only way back for England. But before they do. I feel in my bones that this will really'be a Cup Final"
I am and always will be a fan of Jackies, but if he had taken more penalties, what would his record have been, and with a casey an all, used to put your heed through your shoulders to your arse, at best you had a hump on your back, walking home from school, MAN WILL BE A LEGEND FOREVER.
