Millwall met his WBA wage of £20k pw, but Lester are going to pay him £30k pw apparently. Money well spent on Vardy then?
Yes according to sky sports its looks like he is going to Leicester for 1.25 million, i think we have missed out there because now a days just over a million is not a massive amount for such a good striker. Hopefully we will get someone decent in but i certainly think leicester have got a good signing there
We all agree he's a good striker but i dont want the club paying anyone 30 grand a week, even when we get in the premier league.
He's no way worth 30k p/w. if he was that good he'd be in west broms first team, not on loan for the last 2 seasons and being sold for peanuts (respective to inflated transfer fees and the cost of strikers these days) He's a decent player but no world beater, if he was hed be playing in the premiershit come January 1st.
I think we will pay a decent wage on a loan deal but not on a signing were we will be committed for 2/3 seasons. With a loan its only for four months and if we don't go up we can send him back which if you don't want financial problems is properly the right thing to do, you have to remember if you go after a good striker other clubs will be interested so he won't come unless you are prepared to pay a decent wage or you go for someone with less ability but would he improve the squad? I really do think if we manage to get someone in it will be on loan
Sky Sports News ‏@SkySportsNews Leicester City have agreed a deal with West Brom to sign striker Chris Wood in January for an undisclosed fee #ssn would seem it's official then
WBA dont rate Chris Wood hence why they have sold him. Noway would i want us to pay 30k a week for a player of his limited quality. Lesta appear desperate. 30k a week is not an issue IMO, but it has to be paid to a player who can score goals and lots of them. Looking at the stats more closely, Chris Wood is not as prolific as he appears to be. What price say then for Glenn Murray or Charlie Austin ? Looking at the list of championship Top Scorers you have both Murray and Austin on 20 goals each, then Becchio on 14, Ince and Rhodes on 13, Nugent and Wood on 11 each, CMS and Vydra(Watfiord) on 10, DJ-Campbell and Deeney on 9 each and then a few on 8 incl. Aluko. Billy Sharp and Barnsleys Davies also have 8. Now that Wood has gone, I shall stick with kevin Phillips as my new No.1 pick for the short term at least. A proven PL/FL goal scorer.
Lesster already have decent strikers in Nugent, Waghorn, Beckford and Vardy. The problem is that their formation/tactics puts a massive responsibility on the front man/men to score. Nugent alone up front, never going to get much joy out of our defence. Waghorn, Vardy, Beckford would all have done **** all too.
As much as Phillips still has the knack of scoring, I think signing a younger striker who can then fit into the team, make some partnerships and gain some good chemistry amongst the side ready for possible Premier League football next Season would be a much better option than signing a 39 Year old.
I wonder if Waghorn might be worth a sniff? Bruce was very reluctant to sell him to Lester and knows him inside out whilst he must now be surplus to requirements if he wasnt already.
He came on the other day & has played quite a few games for them this season, not sure if they are as sub or not though.2 goals in 17 games is not really prolific, I don't think he's the sort of player we're after. Also is there still that thing between the 2 sides that won't do business? I could only see them selling to us if they don't rate someone & TBH I don't think we'd really want one of Leicester's cast off's. http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=48366
No such thing ever existed, pure papertalk. If they'd offered £10m for McShane do you think we'd have turned it down cos it was Lester?
NO Doubt about it Wood is an excellent signing at that price, don't get me wrong he is one of those players who is to good for the championship but not quite good enough for the premiership. he will get you 20 goals a season no doubts about that and is all round play ie strong holds the ball up well and is quite pacey of what i have seen of him when he has played against city. i remember Chris Hughton saying Birmingham would have got promotion if they could have kept last season. Regarding wages nobody knows what he has been offered
I'm just going off the whole, Chester & Stewart thing, they were players we wanted to keep & they wanted. I'm pretty sure if they'd offered 1 mill for McShane he'd have gone. Just thinking that even though Waghorn's played 17 games, I don't know how many are starting & how many as sub, but I think he would be classed as a cast off. Not the quality we're looking for in that department.
30k a week???????? Obviously you're guessing but think you are way off the mark. Pearson would never pay that in wages. I would imagine close to 20k a week is morelike it. Great bit of business tho.
